Often new parents are unsure of what to expect after bringing a newborn into the world. It can be a massive shock to the system and can leave parents feeling tired and stressed.
If you’re expecting a baby soon, let Sophie and Georgie help you with normalising newborn behaviour, help with the expectations of feeding your baby and show you techniques to help soothe and settle your baby.

As most of you know, I’m now a midwife and not taking on many doula clients any more due to the huge commitment this brings on top of full time work.

That said, I personally know Stevie from Doulala. Stevie is an incredible woman who I encouraged to embark on her doula journey because of the empathy, compassion and support I could see her bringing to families during their transitional journeys of becoming parents.

If you or someone you know are after some extra support and TLC during this special time, Stevie is your Doula!

This! Often I get asked about how to get baby to sleep better… most of the time, the babies are behaving in a very appropriate way.. for babies. The problem usually lies with the parents having very unrealistic expectations of how, when and where baby should sleep.

"Is he sleeping through the night?" "Is she a 'good' baby?" These are the loud lies of infant (& toddler) sleep. Read more to help the quiet truths rumble.

Believe me… doulas are just as frustrated as you are!
It’s not fair that women are being denied the support they are entitled to.

Sending love and strength to all the women currently being denied support during antenatal appointments, labour and birth, and their postnatal period in hospitals under the current restrictions.

It’s not fair. We are with you.

Call in your deepest strength, push back where you can, surrender when you need to.

Educate yourself. Be clear on what you want.

You may feel alone, but you are far from it. All the women from all the ages are with you, holding you.

With love,
The Birth Time Team

"I had an appointment with a consultant last week and was given a date for induction, although I wasn't really asked whether I wanted it and it was all very fast. There's no medical reason for inducing me, it's just that I'll be 41 weeks pregnant on that date. When I got home and thought about it and read more, I decided I wanted to cancel it. But how do I do that?"

Induction of labour is one of the most commonly searched-for topics on my website. And good many people arrive at www.sarawickham.com after searching for variations on the question, 'How to cancel a labour induction?'

There are sometimes really good reasons for recommending induction of labour. But sometimes it's offered routinely, without thought for the individual, or for convenience. One size doesn't fit all.

If you've been giving an induction date and you're happy about that, that's great. This post isn't for you. But too many women are being given dates for induction that they don't want.

So my blog post today is called "How to cancel a labour induction?" and I hope you'll find it useful. Please feel free to share or repost this in case somebody you know needs this information.

Here’s some great information about why it’s important for your baby to stay inside for as long as possible if there are no health issues for mum or bub.

With so many care providers offering inductions before 40 weeks for no apparent reason, it’s important to understand how much development is happening for babies in the final weeks of pregnancy before agreeing to an unnecessary induction.

Through research we’re discovering that every week your baby continues to grow inside you makes a difference to their short and long term health outcomes. So the timing of your baby’s birth is important.

I thought I should update you all, as it’s been a little while since my last post regarding my doula-ing!

Since my last major update about me starting a nursing degree a lot has changed!

I completed one semester of nursing before being accepted into the bachelor of midwifery (a dream come true)!

So from the beginning of 2019, I have been a student midwife.

2020 sees me as a second year student midwife which requires me to attend uni 2 days a week and work 2 x 8 hour shifts per week within a range of different midwifery sections.

This means that although I would really like to support birthing women, I am limiting myself to (really) local women only to help reduce the amount of extra travelling.

I’m so excited to share this news with you all...apologies for not updating sooner! As you can imagine, completing uni full time, a part-time job, continuing to provide encapsulation while trying to raise my 6 kids...it’s been a whirlwind!

Still offering encapsulation, so don’t hesitate to contact me should you require this!

Happy New Year! (I know... late again! But I promise, I put more effort into providing my clients with a prompt service, rather than updating my FB page!)
