Sump Oil for Scaly Leg Mites? Please Don’t!!!!

This was an old school treament for scaley leg mite. Just paint the chickens legs in sump oil.... I cannot think of a worse recommendation!

Sump oil is a toxic petroleum by-products containing heavy metals, combustion residues, and chemical additives.
They can:
Burn or irritate delicate leg tissue, Be absorbed through the skin and enter the bloodstream, Leave harmful residues on feathers, eggs, and in the environment, and harm your birds’ long-term health and compromise food safety.

Scaley leg mites ae easy to treat, and you dont need to poison your chickens, or your family to do it.

JUST SAY NO TO SUMP OIL!

Delta is a little fussy what she eats, and as with most dogs, when she is not well, her appetite diminishes, and she is very reluctant to take any herbs or supplements no matter how good they are for her.

For Arrow, I can add anything to his meal and he will gobble it up no questions asked, look around to see if there is anymore.

Often when I creatures need their herbs and supplements the most, is when it is hardest to get them to take it.

Sometimes we need to be a little creative in how we are giving them.

Skin infections in horses can progress if not address adequately
Most skin infections in horses are straight forward and many will resove on their own without much intervention.

Some horses, especially those with compromised immune function, or in a prolonged weather event can be more likely to have their simple skin condition progress into something more serious. Once we have a weakened area of skin, the protective barriers are compromised and the infection is able to pe*****te deeper, or we have other opportunisitc secondary infections occuring.

A serious complication is cellulitis, where we have the infection pe*****te into the deeper layers of the skin. This is usually occurs around the legs.
This is a medical emergency, and prompt action is required.

Digestive upset is one of the most common health concerns in dogs, and can be very stressful for dog owners.

Vomiting, diarrhea, or sudden loss of appetite can seem alarming, but in many cases, these symptoms can be safely and gently supported at home.

Did you know your rabbit’s teeth never stop growing?

That’s right . Those adorable chompers grow continuously throughout their life!
In the wild, rabbits wear their teeth down naturally by grinding on grasses, bark, and twigs.

Domestic rabbits need the same opportunity. Give them plenty of hay, fresh greens, and safe chew toys. I like to add in branches for natural enrichment and nutrition.
This chewing helps to keep their teeth healthy and prevent painful overgrowth or spurs.

A rabbit’s mouth should always be busy!

Do you like your horses to have the full natural mane, or are you a trimmer?

One of my boys has QLD Itch, and I find it easier to rub cream into a hogged mane, however I much prefer the look of a full thick mane blowing in the wind!

Fancy Dress and Your Dog

Who doesn’t love the adorable outfits on even cuter dogs?
Dressing up can be loads of fun, but let’s make sure our pups stay comfortable and safe too!

Tips for a happy, stress-free costume day:
1️⃣ Watch for overheating – Costumes can trap heat, especially for fluffy breeds or on warm days. Keep it light, breathable, and monitor for panting or restlessness.
2️⃣ Check for movement and comfort – Make sure your dog can walk, sit, and lie down easily. Restricting their movement can strain joints, especially in dogs with arthritis.
3️⃣ Mind their communication – Masks, hats, or hoods can block facial expressions and body language, making it hard for dogs to “speak dog” with others.
4️⃣ Avoid small parts or ties – Buttons, ribbons, and elastic can become choking hazards or cause discomfort.
5️⃣ Keep it positive – If your dog looks unhappy, licks excessively, or freezes up, ditch the costume and opt for a festive bandana instead!

Dressing up should be fun for both of you, not stressful. When in doubt, less is more!

What’s your dog’s go-to costume this Halloween?
