Since 1st of July 2025, seeing a Sports & Exercise Medicine Physician is now more affordable than ever!
Sports doctors are now recognised as consultant physicians (same as a cardiologist or neurologist, for example). Medicare rebates for appointments with sports doctors have significantly increased for patients with a valid GP or specialist referral.
This means that patients have lower out-of-pocket costs for better value care!
Please note that referrals from allied health practitioners such as physiotherapists, osteopaths and podiatrists will not enable you to access the higher rebate.
Tips for booking:
⭐️Already have a valid referral? No worries! Your usual appointment just transitions smoothly to the new item codes with higher rebates.
⭐️Existing patient without a valid referral? We highly recommended getting a GP referral before your next appointment with your sports doctor, in order for you to be able to access higher rebates.
⭐️New here? Getting a GP referral is quick:
⚪️Just call your GP’s office and ask for a referral—it’s routine
⚪️Or use services like AbbyHealth for a fast, bulk‑billed referral sent digitally
This new change is a small step that helps you save money and we’re making it as simple and stress-free as possible.
Feel free to ask us if you need help getting a referral or have any other questions —it’s what we’re here for! 😊
