Rare Disease Day is the globally coordinated movement on rare diseases, to raise awareness and generate change for the 300 million people worldwide living with a rare disease, their families and carers.
Did you know:
Rare disease affects between 3.5 to 5.9% of the world population
72% of rare diseases are genetic
There are over 6,000 rare diseases, many of which are chronic, progressive, degenerative, disabling, and often life-threatening. Due to the rarity, expertise and information are scarce. In systems designed for common diseases, those with a rare disease face inequities in accessing diagnosis, care and treatments.
On Rare Disease Day, we call for action for people living with a rare disease to have equal opportunities to realise their full participation in family, work and social life.
Show your support of people living with a rare disease by sharing this post and making the pledge '
