The Great Mate Check-In is an annual event hosted by How to Help to raise funds for MISA: Men’s Information and Support Association.

We’re here to foster stronger connections, prioritize mental health, and build a community where men support each other.

We have to pause for a massive, heartfelt shout-out to a true champion of our cause, Shaun Reeves of Hip Hops Brewers ! 🏆

Shaun has been an absolute rockstar supporter of The Great Mate Check-In from day one. His commitment goes far beyond sponsorship:

👏He provided discounts on services to ensure more of your fundraising went directly to MISA.
👏He offered incredible sage advice and guidance to help us grow the event.
👏This year, he bravely stepped up as a panelist to share his own powerful lived experience with burnout and identity.

But that's not all! Shaun, in collaboration with Chris from Barbers at Brendale , has also pledged to donate just over $2,000 to MISA : Men's Information and Support Association! That is an unbelievable gesture of community support.

WOW! What a day. The Great Mate Check-In 2025 was an absolute SMASHING HIT!

Thank you to every single person who showed up, shared their vulnerability, and proved that the power of community is stronger than isolation.

Because of your incredible generosity and commitment, we are thrilled to announce that we raised a grand total of $6,900 for MISA : Men's Information and Support Association!

This isn't just a number—it means we can help MISA provide over 100 fully subsidized counselling sessions and workshops for men in our community who desperately need them. That is the true meaning of a great mate check-in.

What a powerful day at the Collaborate Moreton Bay Mental Wellness Lunch! We had such a good time checking in with mates (and making new ones) that we forgot to snap a photo of our exhibitor set-up... oops!

What truly matters is the overwhelming response: so many people were keen to get involved and ask how they could support The Great Mate Check-In movement. That's the energy that fuels us!

The highlight was hearing the legendary Shane Webcke speak. He shared his darkest moments with such honesty and zero shame, he completely validated our mission. As he said: “The most important thing is to regularly check-in with your mates!” (Courtney and I nearly squealed when he said it!)

We also loved hearing from the panel of experts, hosted beautifully by Donna Thistlewaithe, who reinforced the importance of building connection—no matter how difficult the conversation might be.

A huge thank you to everyone who stopped by!
