Camu Camu - FAQ

What Is Camu Camu?
Camu Camu (Myrciaria dubia) a small, sour berry with a powerful nutritional punch.

It grows in the heart of the Amazon rainforest.

This unassuming fruit has captured the attention of Naturopaths, health practitioners and researchers alike due to its remarkably high vitamin C content and a rich array of antioxidants, including polyphenols and carotenoids.

Unlike the common fruits found in supermarkets, Camu Camu isn't widely known outside of South America but is gaining acclaim as a powerful superfruit capable of supporting a variety of health functions.

A common question I get from my older clients and Masters athletes is:

What can I take for my knee pain?

Unfortunately, my recommendation is often refuted by other health practitioners who seem to have only read a headline, not the whole paper.

I'll explain.

Glucosamine should be one of the most popular supplements people reach for when knees start feeling stiff, creaky or “older than they should.”

And it should be paired with chondroitin sulfate.

Together they can be simple way to support cartilage and keep your joints moving comfortably.

Unfortunately, there is a perception by many health practitioners that glucosamine is "less likely to help than a placebo".

But what does high-quality research actually say?

Collagen for Joints?

Joint pain, stiffness and reduced mobility affect millions of adults, not just athletes or those diagnosed arthritis.

As cartilage wears down and connective tissues lose resilience with age, many people turn to collagen for joints to support comfort, movement and long-term joint health.

This article explains how collagen works in the body, what the research suggests about joint support, how collagen compares to other popular joint supplements and what actually matters when choosing a joint formula that works.

CREATINE FOR TEENS

When most people hear “creatine,” they think of strength training or muscle size.

Yet there is research suggesting creatine can help with brain fog, sleep deprivation, ADHD and menopausal women.

A new study adds to the "cognitive" improvements that creatine can help with.

When it comes to skin health, most conversations focus on what you apply on the skin.

But modern research is increasingly exploring how internal inflammation, immune balance, and nutrient transport influence skin comfort, redness and reactivity.

In other words, look at gut health for skin health.

One compound gaining attention in this space is fulvic acid.

Human clinical research shows fulvic acid is safe, bioavailable, and may support inflammatory balance linked to skin health. Learn what the science says.

Study Links Moringa & Gut Barrier Support

If you’re familiar with moringa (Moringa oleifera), you’re most likely know it's referred to as a superfood, daily green or antioxidant.

But now a new paper in MicrobiologyOpen adds a more:

Moringa may support gut health partly through what your gut microbes do with it; especially fermentation that increases measurable polyphenols and improves a lab marker linked to gut barrier integrity.

New research suggests moringa may support gut health - boosting measurable polyphenols after fermentation and improving a gut barrier marker (TEER).

Creatine for Brain Health

Creatine is best known as a sports supplement.

For decades, 5 grams per day has been the standard recommendation to improve muscle strength, power, and performance.

But the brain is not muscle.

Emerging research suggests that while 5 g/day may be sufficient to saturate skeletal muscle, it may be too low to meaningfully support brain bioenergetics, particularly during periods of metabolic stress such as sleep deprivation, depression, aging, or brain injury.

A 2025 mini-review published in the Journal of Psychiatry & Brain Science proposes a clear shift in how we think about creatine:

Brain health may require higher and/or longer dosing strategies than physical performance.

Research suggests standard creatine doses may be too low for brain energy. Learn how higher dosing may support cognition, aging, sleep loss and mental health.

Shilajit has become one of the most searched mineral supplements online, often associated with energy, vitality, longevity, and “ancient wisdom.”

It’s frequently promoted as a natural way to support fatigue, performance, and overall resilience.

That interest isn’t irrational. But it does raise an important question that’s often skipped in marketing:

What part of shilajit actually drives its effects - and is shilajit the only way to get them?

This article looks at what shilajit is, why people take it, where the evidence sits and why many practitioners now consider fulvic and humic mineral complexes a more consistent and lower-risk alternative...

READ MOR:

Exploring shilajit benefits, fulvic acid, mineral content and safety concerns. Learn why many practitioners prefer fulvic mineral complexes instead.

Most people think “longevity” is about what you do: exercise, diet, sleep, stress.

True - but there’s another layer.

Inside your gut are trillions of microbes that behave like a living organ.

They don’t just “help digestion.”

They manufacture compounds (called metabolites) that can influence inflammation, metabolism, insulin sensitivity, and how you age.

A fascinating 2025 study adds a new piece to this puzzle: researchers found they could nudge gut bacteria to produce more of a longevity-linked compound - and it improved markers of metabolic health in aging mice.

Your gut microbiome helps produce compounds that affect inflammation & metabolism. Explore the science behind gut health & longevity.
