Wrapping up NAIDOC 2025 with a little carousel from our Bribie Project NAIDOC Event 🌿

On 31 July 2025, headspace Bribie Island came together one more time this year to honour NAIDOC — closing the official cycle of celebrations for the year, but not the spirit behind them.

NAIDOC Week is more than a date on the calendar. It’s a time to recognise and celebrate the history, culture, and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. This year’s events have been a reminder that while the banners come down and the stages pack away, our commitment to respect, listen, and support the next generation must be an everyday action.

A heartfelt thank you to our beautiful Bribie organizations who made this possible.
We are grateful for the PIEEC community for showing up, sharing stories, and standing together. Your presence made this year’s NAIDOC Event stronger and more meaningful.

Let’s carry this energy forward whilst celebrating culture, empowering voices, and building a future led by the next generation every single day.

Until next time 💛❤️🖤 💙💚🤍🖤

Bribie, are you ready???
I AM KIND MOVEMENT has organized 🎉 Bribie’s Biggest Tee Ball Game 🎉

Forget uniforms ‼️ this is your chance to show off your wildest, weirdest, most wonderful outfits! 🤩💃

Rule #1: Wear ANYTHING but sports clothes. Rock a costume, a onesie, 80s glam, or something so random your friends can’t stop laughing.

⚾ It’s more than just a tee ball game – it’s about bringing our community together.
When we show up for each other, we build a place where everyone feels welcome, supported, and part of something bigger.

🍔 All-afternoon BBQ fundraiser: every delicious snag and burger helps support headspace Bribie Island, providing vital mental health, physical health and sexual health support for young people right here on the island. 💚

📅 When: Friday 15 August 2025
📍 Where: BI Recreational Ground
⏱️ Time: 4:30pm to 6:00pm

Come for the laughs, stay for the connections, and leave with memories (and maybe a mustard or sweat stain or two)🥳

💥 Let’s make this the loudest, proudest, and most colourful community day Bribie has ever seen!

💚 your support means the world to us!

HAPPY INTERNATIONAL NON-BINARY PEOPLE'S DAY 💛🤍💜🖤
our headspace centre Bribie Island (just like any other headspace centre) welcomes and supports young people of all genders. We are all different and International Non-Binary People’s Day is a chance for us to celebrate and respect the experiences of non-binary people.

What does non-binary mean?
Non-binary is a term for people whose gender does not fit neatly into the categories of man or woman or male and female.
A person who is non-binary might feel like they have a mix of genders, or like they have no gender at all. A person may identify as non-binary or relate to non-binary as an umbrella term and may use the pronouns such as they/them.
It takes people of all genders working together to stop gender-based discrimination and celebrate diversity so that people can be their authentic selves.

This year as an ally, you can make a big difference by doing something as simple as:

👉 call out or challenge any type of transphobic language used against non-binary people. Support is extremely important so make sure you challenge discrimination when you see it.
👉 remember that gender identity is personal: if someone shares their identity with you make sure you honor that trust and respect their identity without asking for more information that can invalid their truth (e.g. what is your real identity/gender?)
👉 remember that gender identity is not sexual identity: no matter how someone identifies their own gender, they may still identify with any sexual identity. These two are separate and distinct from each other.
👉 ask questions: it is truly important to acknowledge people's preferences and use names and pronouns that people choose for themselves. If you are unsure, simply ask what people's preferred pronouns are.
👉respect people's stories and keep an open mind so that you can learn from diversity instead of condemning it.

New month, new updates!
Time to reveal all the epic news we have got for you 🗣

First things first: happy NAIDOC Week 2025 to our amazing community 🖤💛❤️
We have loved being part of:
- BWJG Flag Raising Ceremony last Friday 4th July in Caboolture Town Square
- NAIDOC Family Fun Day last Saturday 5th July in Deception Bay

This year's theme is "The Next Generation: Strength, Vision & Legacy". Let's embrace this week and use it to connect with our past and honor the vision we are creating for future generations. Together we acknowledge the lives of all First Peoples of the beautiful land we live on. To get involved, visit https://www.naidoc.org.au/about/naidoc-week 🫶

Moving onto something glitterier, we are incredibly proud to have hosted an incredible Pride Party in Bribie Island. Terry Daktyl, elected Drag Queen of the year 2025, delighted our young people with performances, Q&As session and rhinestone workshop. Terry's presence is powerful beyond words, and their testimony is a living source of inspiration for our community ❤🧡💛💚🩵🩷💜

In the next few weeks, we will celebrate:
- Bullying NO MORE Day at Caboolture State High School on 14th July 2025
- The one-year anniversary of the Bribie Island Satellite Hospital on 17th July 2025
- The arrival of Edge Of The Present to headspace Bribie Island. Keep an eye on our social media pages to find when and how to book your Free Virtual Reality Experience in our hs BI centre

Last but not least, we have designed a new CHILL OUT SPACE Support Groups occurring fortnightly in our hs BI centre. We start on Tuesday 15th July at 3:00pm - 4:00pm. Come have snacks and soft drinks, enjoy the company of likeminded people who want to have a good time, play pool and ping pong, use our TV and bring good vibes along 😎 Flyer will be out soon - make sure you don't miss it 👀

For any questions, feel free to call 07 5428 1599 to find out more.
