We had another delightful camp over at the breakaways. I just love how this place makes me feel. The air smells sweet. The ground is soft to walk upon. The bird songs are so diverse and sweet. We had a pair of majestic hawks roost for the night above us at the moment we settled into our swag. The flowers are rare and interesting. The sense of connection here is heart warming.

A lovely little Christmas decoration at a cafe in Renmark where we had breakfast on Christmas Eve.

We are having a Christmas with a difference this year, travelling from NSW coast to home. We took a detour via the Gawler ranges along many challenging and corrugated dirt roads and recommend no-one do this trip ever, particularly not on Christmas Day.

Nevermind, we have each other and a great sense of humour. We made it back to a most luxurious bitumen Eyre highway and found a lovely little public park at Poochera to have our roadhouse coffee and tinned salmon and avocado on bread for lunch.

Tonight we will be dining on the last of our fruit and veg before we cross the border into WA tomorrow where no fresh food may cross. Fortunately we also picked up from Renmark a lovely local Angove organic sparking wine to have tonight.

Christmas cheer to all our beloved friends, family and followers.

Day 6 View from the Kakadu

Today we took a lesson in how to make a long trip feel longer … add a few hundred kilometres of mountain ranges and 6 stops at roadworks 😫

It was a bit heart wrenching to see hundreds of kilometres of fire devastated country through the snowy mountains. Also to see another 5 dead wombats and various other roadkill today. Also sad to hear of more human deaths in our country. Sending love to the people grieving from this.

So grateful we made it safely to our lovely little seapod at Tathra where we will be surrounded by family and loved ones.

Day 5 View from the Kakadu

As usual we wake to the sweet sound of birds. My favourite tree is even more vibrantly orange in the morning light. After a night wrestling with ants and waking to the smell of BO I am however, pleased to get on the road early to get to our accommodation booking in Wagga Wagga.

The trip was a lot more exciting than yesterday. Let it be known that there are more trees across the Nullarbor than there is driving across SA.

We had a speckling of lovely surprises today … silo art in Hay, roadside stall of cherries and a huge pimped up pink Chevrolet twin cab Ute complete with pink tincel.

So many lovely walks and places to see in Wagga Wagga including the Waradjuri walk to Wagga beach on the Murrumbidgee river.

Day 4 View from the Kakadu

The first day I have phone service to make this post in real time.

And all I have for you, after travelling through 3 states today is 4 days is a lot of driving and a long time without a shower 😫

And just now out of the shadows appears a big goanna which in our medicine circle is symbolic for strength and courage to move through the challenges. I just love nature’s offerings 😊

And we do have a lovely river frontage campsite tonight.

Day 3 View from the Kakadu

The pressure was on today!
1. Pressure to eat fruit and veg: We realised that today was the day we cross over into SA which means surrendering our fresh fruit and veg. Hot tip for the day, fruit salad is a lot more exciting than an individual pair, apple, banana, mango and passion fruit.
2. We had a 9 hour drive to get to our favourite dinner spot at Kimba roadhouse and we had to factor in the daylight saving extra hour ahead in SA. Also held up by A LOT of roadworks, so it was fruit salad, snow peas, carrot and cucumber on the run, and a quick machine coffee at the fuel stop for the day.
3. We realised that as well as our odometer, we also have our phone time and the car clock to watch out for triple numbers for our wish list game. Every time we see triple numbers we verbalise our wishes. After seeing a dead wombat and remembering we had wished to see a wombat, we now have the extra pressure of being clearer with what we ask for - such as alive wombats.
4. Eye watering $3 per litre for diesel at the Nullarbor and angry truckies yelling expletives. I thought there was going to be a punch up, and then realised they were both just passionately debriefing about bad drivers. Pressure’s on to be a good driver 😬

Day 2 View from the Kakadu

Leaving the sweet smelling air of the remote breakaways we drove deeper into the remote bush of WA. But not before a stop at Norseman BP, an hour and a half up the road for a super strong coffee to power our conversation for the 8 hour drive ahead.

No service for 90% of the way so not much podcast time. By the afternoon, we had run out of conversation and had to resort to good old fashioned CDs that jump around and get stuck on songs. Managed some sing alongs with Dolly Parton however, and created a car game - odometer wish list.

Every time we see triple numbers on the odometer we get to speak our wishes for the period of those numbers. It’s a bit like speed dating meets manifesting. It served us well because we managed to find ourselves a very nice private campsite a long way from the main road to retire into our swag for sleep at sunset.

We had 360 degree views of what looks like not much, but when you look closely at the plants there are so many tiny flowers, fruits and colourful foliage hidden in plain view. Loving the WA bush and peace and quiet 😍

Day 1 of our trip from Bridgetown to Tathra:

The breakaways are always a lovely spot for camping. We almost had the whole place to ourselves. Great walks and exploration of a unique place in the bush between Hyden and Norseman. Very remote gravel road access. A wonderful painting palette inspo

Another stunning and captivating bush flower that we came across at Crooked Brook Forest near Dardenup. I have never seen a mulla mulla flower so vibrantly pink. The bush put on a brilliant display for us, especially for me, lover of all things pink. The beauty of WA bush flowers continues to amaze me. You do have to look very closely however - so many of WA's flowers are small and tiny.

I felt especially looked after on my walk here on this day - in regards to what I have been feeling in my inner world. These flowers have healing properties in relation to the psyche of ancestral patterns and wounds (pink mulla mulla) and mental disturbances (boronia). I don't know the tiny white ones but they look to me a lot like genes and I feel these to be a plant spirit medicine for genetic healing. I have been seeing a lot of healing of ancestral patterns and supporting the integration of wisdom from ancestors this past few weeks, so it is no surprise to me that I have some inner work happening in this way as well.
