Understand your set up to maximise your back squat ✅

The back squat is one exercise that is very commonly performed poorly, and can be significantly improved with some changes to arm position in set up.

Here are some tips to improve your set up in your back squat:

1️⃣ Grip the bar firmly with straight wrists. This is an often overlooked cue but one that helps maximise tension in the upper body!

2️⃣keep your hands as close to your body as your mobility allows. This allows you to create more stability throughout the upper back and create a ‘shelf’ for the bar to sit on.

3️⃣drive elbows back to further create tension throughout the upper back

From here think about driving your shoulder blades back and down away from the ears, and you are prepared to squat with a stable set up.

Is our Director that makes it all possible!

Martin Kurz established Peak Health in 2016 with the goal of providing an all-round service for anyone who wishes to improve their condition, whether this be returning to pain free daily function or improving athletic performance.

For the majority of the last decade Marty has worked with people from all walks of life to improve their strength and fitness and has gained first hand experience in the elite training practices in many sports including Aussie Rules, Gymnastics and CrossFit.

Marty has presented strength and conditioning based seminars around Australia and internationally and is constantly progressing his own knowledge in all things assessment, strength, conditioning and rehabilitation, so you can be sure you are getting the best advice possible.

With many of his rehabilitative modalities steeped in strength and conditioning and as such, in science, Marty’s goals for his clients are not to merely “get you back to function” but to get you back to and beyond your target level of activity.

After an exciting growth period, we have now added three 9am classes to our timetable!

Our classes are run by Accredited Exercise Physiologists with a wealth of experience in Strength and Conditioning. We are uncompromising on correct technique and form, so if technique matters to you, you need to train with us!
