Your family history plays a bigger role in your eye health than you might think.

Your eyes work hard too! Show them some love with these simple tips.

✔️ Every 20 minutes, look at something 20 feet away for at least 20 seconds. This simple habit helps reduce digital eye strain and allows your eyes to relax.

✔️ Make sure your screen brightness matches the ambient lighting in your room. Too bright or too dim can increase strain on your eyes, so find a comfortable balance.

✔️ Keep your screen at least 25 inches from your eyes and position it slightly below eye level. This reduces the need to tilt your head, helping prevent neck and eye strain.

✔️ We tend to blink less when staring at screens, which may dry and irritate the eyes. Make a conscious effort to blink regularly to keep your eyes moist and comfortable.

✔️ Get up, move around, and give your eyes a break from the screen every hour. Short breaks help reduce fatigue and keep both your body and eyes feeling refreshed.

Key facts your optometrist wishes you knew: A focus on dry eyes.

Dry eyes aren’t just a ‘normal’ part of the day and shouldn’t be ignored. Persistent dryness, irritation or burning can signal an underlying issue.

An optometrist can assess symptoms like dryness, irritation or burning to help find possible causes and solutions.

Myth Three: All sunglasses protect your eyes from UV rays

Fact: Darker lenses don't always mean UV protection. In Australia look for sunglasses that meet the Australian Standard (AS/NZS 1067.1) and block 95-100% of UV

Heard this one before?

"I don't need an eye test until I notice a problem"

Unfortunately, there are many eye conditions that develop slowly and without showing obvious symptoms. For example, glaucoma, a group of diseases that cause irreversible vision loss, is commonly referred to as the 'silent thief of sight' because there are no obvious symptoms in its early stages.

Regular eye exams are essential for maintaining vision and eye health. You only get one pair of eyes, it's important to take care of them.

Let’s clear a few things up 👩‍🏫

There are plenty of myths you may have heard throughout the years that can affect how you think about, and care for your vision.

Swipe through as we bust common eye-care misconceptions and share the facts you need to support your vision with confidence.

Myth One: Wearing glasses makes your eyes dependant and weaker over time 👀

Fact: Glasses don't make your eyes weaker, they simply correct how you see. Not wearing them when needed can actually lead to eyestrain and headaches 👓
