Stress is a normal part of life, but ongoing or overwhelming stress can affect both your physical and mental health. Common signs of stress include feeling constantly tired, tense or irritable, having trouble sleeping, headaches, changes in appetite, or difficulty concentrating.

Simple ways to help manage stress include maintaining regular sleep, staying physically active, limiting caffeine and alcohol, taking short breaks, practising slow breathing, and staying connected with supportive people. Small changes can make a meaningful difference over time.

If stress is affecting your daily life, relationships or wellbeing, or if symptoms are persistent, it’s important to seek support. Your GP can help assess what’s going on, discuss coping strategies, and connect you with further support if needed. You don’t have to manage stress on your own.

Remember we also have Eastern Shore Psychology visiting on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday if you need additional support. To book with our visiting psychologists, please contact Eastern Shore Psychology on 03 6240 5442.

We are proud to be a collection point for the Share the Dignity Drive, which has been running throughout this month.

The Dignity Drive helps support people experiencing period poverty by collecting essential period products for those doing it tough in our community. Donations of unopened items such as pads, tampons, menstrual cups, period underwear and incontinence products are greatly appreciated.

If you’re visiting the clinic, you’re welcome to bring a donation and place it in our collection box. Every contribution, no matter the size, helps provide dignity, choice and care to someone in need.

Harmony Week - Celebrate Diversity & Belonging

This March 16th - 22nd we join Australians everywhere to celebrate Harmony Week, a time to recognise and embrace the rich cultural diversity that makes our community so special.

Harmony Week is all about inclusiveness, respect and a sense of belonging for everyone, no matter where you come from, what language you speak, or what traditions you follow. It reminds us that our differences make us stronger and enrich our lives.

How you can get involved:
- Wear something orange to show your support for cultural diversity, orange symbolises social communication, meaningful conversation and mutual respect.
- Attend or host a Harmony Week event
- Have conversations that celebrate and honour different cultures

Let’s take this opportunity to reflect on how inclusiveness and respect help create a community where everyone belongs. Because when we lift each other up, we all thrive together.

We’re Proud to Be a Collection Point for the August Dignity Drive !

At BRD we recognise the importance of dignity, choice and care for everyone in our community. Share the Dignity is an Australian charity working to end period poverty by collecting and distributing period products to women, girls and anyone who menstruates who are doing it tough, including those experiencing homelessness, domestic violence or financial hardship.

One of their key initiatives is the Dignity Drive, held twice a year in March and August. During these drives, Share the Dignity collects unopened period products such as pads, tampons, menstrual cups, period un**es and incontinence aids at collection points nationwide, including Woolworths supermarkets and registered community locations. These products are then distributed through partner charities to ensure people in need have access to essential items they might otherwise go without.

Period poverty can force people to make impossible choices between basic needs. By supporting the Dignity Drive through donations or by encouraging others to contribute, we can help ensure no one has to face their period without the products they need.

Today we acknowledge International Family Drug Support Day, a day dedicated to raising awareness of the challenges families face when someone they love is affected by alcohol and other drugs, and recognising the strength found in support, understanding and connection.

This important day highlights:
- The impact that substance use can have on families and loved ones
- The value of education, compassion and coping strategies
- The need to reduce shame, stigma and discrimination
- The importance of community support and accessible resources for families and carers

To all those in our community who have been affected, whether you’re supporting a loved one, seeking help, or offering a listening ear, we see you, we honour your courage, and we stand with you.
If you or someone you know needs support, Family Drug Support offers a 24/7 support line and resources to help navigate this journey.

Heat stroke is a medical emergency and can happen quickly during extreme heat. Knowing what to do could save a life.

Call 000 immediately if someone has:
• A very high body temperature
• Confusion, agitation, or trouble speaking
• Loss of consciousness
• Seizures

While waiting for emergency help:
- Move them to a cooler place, shade or air-conditioning
- Remove excess clothing
- Cool them rapidly, use cool packs on neck, armpits and groin, or sponge/spray with cool water
- Fan the person to help cooling
- Do NOT give fluids if they are confused or unconscious

Do not wait, heat stroke can be life-threatening. Quick action and fast cooling are critical.
Let’s all look out for each other during hot weather. If you’re unsure or worried about heat illness, contact your GP or seek urgent medical care.

10/02/2026

If you’re an Australian resident aged 45-49 ( or 40+ years old with a high risk of developing Type 2 diabetes) and have risk factors and family history of chronic disease, you may be eligible for the subsidised health assessment.

To be eligible for the health check, your GP needs to identify at least one risk factor. Risk factors are based on:
- family history of chronic disease.
- blood pressure, cholesterol, or blood sugar levels.
- weight and diet.
- history of smoking.
- alcohol intake.
- exercise habits.

If you’re eligible for the health assessment, it is bulk billed.

What does the 45-49 health assessment involve?
As part of the health assessment, you need to see a nurse first for 45 minutes to discuss:
- Lifestyle (diet, exercise, smoking, and drinking).
- Signs of skin cancer.
- Mental health condition.
Family history of chronic disease.
Any concerns you may have regarding your health

They may also measure the following:
- Weight and height.
- Blood pressure.
- ECG

Assess the need for preventative health care such as
- Cervical screening tests
- Fasting blood tests
- Mammograms
- Faecal occult blood testing
- Skin cancer screening
- Prostate cancer screening
- Vision and hearing screening
- immunisation

Calculate:
- Risk of diabetes.
- Risk of fracture related to osteoporosis (women 45+ years).
- Cardiovascular risk.

If you feel you are at a healthy point in your life, this can be the best time to go and see your doctor. We use the information as a benchmark, if your health starts to veer from this point, we have a map to navigate back towards the healthiest you! Additionally, health checks often include bloodwork and other screening tests. Even though you may feel healthy, some of these tests may indicate otherwise.

Remember, being active towards preventative health is the best thing you can do to increase the likelihood that you will have optimal health and wellbeing for as long as possible.
