A proud moment for HWQ and the future of optometry in the Tablelands! ๐Ÿ‘“

Today our North Queensland Health Workforce Connector, Renae Massa, had her eyes checked. Finally, we can stop hearing about how everything is so blurry!

More exciting than this though, Renaeโ€™s check-up was with Louis Huynh, a 5th and final year UQ optometry student who was also part of our first GROW Rural North Queensland cohort. Louis is currently completing his placement with George & Matilda Eyecare at Atherton Optometrist.

Placements like these are so important in supporting the next generation of eye care professionals and helping students gain real-world clinical experience. Itโ€™s wonderful to see Louis back in the Tablelands and George & Matilda Eyecare playing a part in shaping the future of regional eye care.

Thank you to Renae for supporting a future optometrist and thank you Louis for helping Renae finally see her computer screen so she can get some work done! ๐Ÿ‘€

When rural services work together, real change follows, and thatโ€™s exactly whatโ€™s happening in the South Burnett.

A recent collaboration between Health Workforce Queensland and Essential Health Services has expanded allied health care in Nanango and Kingaroy, improved access to local services, and strengthened the workforce by connecting clinicians with meaningful regional opportunities.

This story shows how simple conversations and partnerships can help fill gaps in rural health and why working together benefits both communities and providers.
