SMALL DOG ONLY Dog Sitting Service that provides an in MY home experience for your furry friends. We ask that all dogs that visit are fully vaccinated, up to date with flea and worming treatments and DESEXED. Excessive barkers will not be tolerated, as this is a home environment with neighbours. Daily doggy daycare from 7:00am -6:00pm weekdays. Early/Late pickups and drops off by appointment. CLOSED ON SUNDAYS! This is my HOME, so there is a $5 fee for peeing/pooping inside. This covers chemicals. Vacation care as requested. Book your vacation times FAST. I book really quickly so if you know your dates, then please get in touch asap. Your dog sleeps in our beds/bedrooms/on couches/their bed/crate/wherever they like. ALL Pickups must be before 10am or the daycare fee for that day is added to your bill. Dogs being dogs is the main stay of what I do here. Being able to choose to play, choose who they play with and when, is a big part of it. We appreciate dogs who set boundaries and dogs who respect others boundaries. I have many clients who have rescue dogs, anxious dogs and here to be socialised. I have a great track record working with these types of dogs. My dogs are all rescues and came with their own challenges, they are:
Dukee and Diesel the Tibetan spaniels and Blind Queen Molly, a blind Maltese. Due to my disabilities, we do not do walks, but the yard is large enough and they get plenty of exercise. WE ARE LGBTQ+ FRIENDLY! My assistant is RoRo who is a non binary trans Muslim person. So we don't judge anyone. I used to be a vet nurse but chronic illness and disability stopped that being viable. I am more than happy to medicate your pooch whilst they are here. Dogs are mostly kept in the daycare space and outside while in daycare. But for Sleepovers they can sleep in my bed or wherever they chose.

Is it ok or just plain uncomfortable?
Do they curve and turn into each other? Are their bodies directed towards each other repeatedly?
These can be great signs, as can those wide leg stances that show they're comfortable.
Sometimes, you may see those fast runs past and followed by a pause, that can be a clear invitation.

I know it can be tough to tell, especially when those interactions are fast paced but it's important to look at the bigger picture.
It's individual.
What works for one dog may not for another.

For some breeds there may not be much curving. For others those wide leg stances can be physically impossible.
So how does your dog consent when interacting with others?

Do you notice patterns when they are with a trusted dog friend? It's always interesting to watch just how individual those responses can be!

How do they consent with you ?
Do you see any similarities when observing your dog with another? If you're dog does have a trusted friend, watch how they consent.
There will be clear individual ways they want to engage or not.

Take a look at the chart and take some notes about your own dogs "tells".
But equally important is how the other dog shows consent, or not.

They were never designed for everything, yet that's exactly how we tend to use them.
A dog's name was never meant to cover every moment, emotion and situation throughout the day.
They aren't instructions, solutions or a shortcut to understanding, but that's how we start to rely on them.

Often their names will become a background blur. It won't stand out and loses its relevance. sometimes it can even mean emotional pressure or cause anxiety because of how we have used it.

How many times a day do you say your dog's name?
Ten?
Maybe twenty?
Chances are it's much higher because it's subconscious and we also tend to just add it in here and there.
That adds up to a lot.
Suddenly, they're ignoring it completely.

Have a look at some old videos, listen and count how many times you may have said their name.
You may be very surprised.

Names tend to work best when they stand out and don't carry an expectation or instruction.
Their names have been stretched too thin, but the good news is, the less we use them the more "elastic" they can become again.

They'll quickly bounce back, if we stop the overuse.

Fun fact: the hams great granny made the blankets in their beds. She makes them for all the grandkids.

Yes, Archie is a bed thief. A blanket thief.
Muffin doesn’t mind thankfully.
