Royal Flying Doctor Service - Queensland Section

Royal Flying Doctor Service - Queensland Section The Royal Flying Doctor Service (Queensland Section) has been saving lives in regional, rural and remote communities for 96 years.

In addition to aeromedical retrievals, the RFDS also delivers essential primary and preventative healthcare services. Established in Queensland in 1928 by the Reverend John Flynn, the RFDS has grown to become the world’s largest and most comprehensive aeromedical organisation. Today the RFDS delivers more than 370,000 episodes of patient care across Australia every year – equivalent to assisting s

omeone every two minutes. In Queensland, the RFDS provides healthcare services over an area of 1.73 million square kilometres from nine strategically located bases in Cairns, Townsville, Mount Isa, Charleville, Longreach, Roma, Rockhampton, Bundaberg and Brisbane. These services are delivered via a fleet of 20 medically equipped aeromedical aircraft. And with some of the world’s most highly trained and skilled aviation and medical staff, the RFDS is incredibly well positioned to uphold our promise to deliver the finest care to the furthest corner of the state.

It’s incredible to think we’re now approaching our centenary. What souvenirs would you love to see to mark our 100 years?

Family ties in the skies! 👨‍✈️👨‍⚕️ Our Deputy Head of Flying Operations, Nick Tully, headed to a station south west of Longreach this week alongside a familiar face - his nephew, William Tully!

William is a medical student completing his placement at Charleville Hospital and joined Nick for an aeromedical retrieval. ✈️

It's wonderful to see two generations working together to deliver the finest care to some of Queensland's most remote communities.

We're still buzzing from last month's RFDS Take to the Skies Giving Day which raised over $720,000 for the RFDS! 👏🎉

We couldn't have done this without the incredible support from our Flying High partners, who helped us lift this fundraiser to new heights by matching every donation made during the 24-hour campaign.

A huge thanks everyone involved, including our partners Brisbane Airport, Isuzu UTE Australia and Woolworths for helping to bring this celebration to life in King George Square.

Every dollar raised from this event will go towards delivering essential healthcare and life-saving aeromedical retrievals to those in need across our vast state.

Thank you for helping us Take to the Skies ❤️

The countdown is on! 🚴‍🚴‍🚴‍

In just one week, the Ridewest team will set off on their eight day journey from Brisbane to Longreach, kicking off Friday 24 April.

For third‑time rider and Augathella local Natalie, this ride is about far more than the challenge. Growing up and living in the bush, she’s seen firsthand how vital mental health support is for regional and remote communities.

Read Natalie’s story here 👉 https://www.flyingdoctor.org.au/qld/news/pedal-cause/

Ridewest is a biennial fundraising ride supporting the RFDS Wellbeing Out West program, delivering essential mental health services across Western Queensland. 🧡🖤

We are grateful for the commitment of Natalie, her fellow riders and supporters whose efforts continue to make a measurable impact on community wellbeing.
