Royal Flying Doctor Service - Queensland Section The Royal Flying Doctor Service (Queensland Section) has been saving lives in regional, rural and remote communities for 96 years.

In addition to aeromedical retrievals, the RFDS also delivers essential primary and preventative healthcare services. Established in Queensland in 1928 by the Reverend John Flynn, the RFDS has grown to become the world’s largest and most comprehensive aeromedical organisation. Today the RFDS delivers more than 370,000 episodes of patient care across Australia every year – equivalent to assisting someone every two minutes. In Queensland, the RFDS provides healthcare services over an area of 1.73 million square kilometres from nine strategically located bases in Cairns, Townsville, Mount Isa, Charleville, Longreach, Roma, Rockhampton, Bundaberg and Brisbane. These services are delivered via a fleet of 20 medically equipped aeromedical aircraft. And with some of the world’s most highly trained and skilled aviation and medical staff, the RFDS is incredibly well positioned to uphold our promise to deliver the finest care to the furthest corner of the state.

Each year we respond to almost 200 snake bite cases across the state. ✈️🏥

As temperatures rise, we're urging Queenslanders to be alert, calm and prepared for any unexpected encounters. 🐍

For those who live in regional, rural and remote communities, where medical care is limited, a snake bite kit could save a life.

Meet Dr Brianna Smith - our very own Eliza from the RFDS TV series! 👩‍⚕️

Dr Brianna moved to Australia 10 years ago with a passion for serving small communities with an interest in tropical medicine. 😷🌡️💊

Now, she's living the dream as a Medical Officer at our Mount Isa Base, a Senior Medical Officer at the Mount Isa Hospital and Director of Rural Generalist Training for the North West Hospital and Health Service. 👏

While RFDS Season 3 has come to an end, the real stories of the Flying Doctor continue. ✈️

For RFDS pilot Matthew Kloeden, service has always been a calling. Before joining the RFDS, he flew with the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF), an experience that taught him the true meaning of service and teamwork.

Living on a remote cattle station, the RFDS has supported Elle-Jay throughout her pregnancy.

Elle-Jay was 36 weeks pregnant when their property was surrounded by flood waters. The RFDS arranged her evacuation in case she went into labour early. Now with their healthy baby boy, Lachie, they are grateful for the Flying Doctor’s assistance. ✈️🩺💙
