šØ BIG nutrition news! šØ
Have you seen the brand-new 2025ā2030 U.S. Dietary Guidelines released this week?
I might be Australian š¦šŗ, but letās be realā¦.what happens in the U.S. shapes nutrition conversations around the world. And while opinions are definitely mixed, I genuinely think this update is a huge step in the right direction š
Hereās whatās new and exciting in the update:
⨠Whole foods take centre stage: the guidelines now push Americans to prioritise real, minimally processed foods over ultra-processed packaged products, which is a powerful public health shift.
šŖ Protein gets a boost: daily protein recommendations have been increased, and protein now plays a bigger role at every meal. ļæ¼
š„ Healthy fats are back: full-fat dairy and nutrient-dense fats (like olive oil and other whole-food fat sources) are highlighted rather than just low-fat options. ļæ¼
š« Added sugar and processed foods called out: the guidelines strongly discourage added sugar and foods with artificial ingredients. ļæ¼
š„ Alcohol advice changed: instead of specific limits, the guidance now simply encourages people to drink less overall. ļæ¼
I need to add, however, that an individualās eating regime is exactly that-individual- and what is appropriate for one may not be appropriate for another. Now to tackle Big Food companies and star/letter ratings with their misleading and dangerous marketing.
Change is happening⦠and itās about time!
