Brothers Cooking Classes | Week 1

Building Confidence and Connection
We kicked off our Brothers Cooking Class series at our headquarters this month, led by one of our own Brothers who is a qualified chef.

Week one focused on introductions, safety, and setting the tone for the classes. Everyone felt included, heard, and supported, with each participant having a voice in decision-making. Brothers supported their participants throughout the process, allowing the session to flow naturally without being overbearing. This approach strongly reflected our value of mateship, working side-by-side as equals.

What we made
• Burgers made completely from scratch
• Rocky road slice

Participants worked through the full process of forming burger patties, learning how to judge doneness and cook safely. Onion was intentionally included to observe knife skills and safety awareness. Everyone did extremely well, no cuts, no burns, and plenty of learning moments along the way.

For dessert, the group made rocky road slice using containers they could take home. Participants learned how to safely melt chocolate, with Brothers guiding decisions such as tearing marshmallows rather than using them whole.

Challenges
Budgeting and knife safety were early focus areas. One moment required clear reinforcement of knife safety, which participants immediately respected and responded to positively.

Key takeaway
While initial menu options felt overwhelming, participants were gently guided toward meals they enjoyed. By stepping back and allowing participants and Brothers to problem-solve together, it became clear this space is best participant-led. One participant confidently suggested chicken satay stir fry for the following week, showing early ownership and growth.

Another big week out in the community for our Brothers and participants, making the most of the sunshine, getting out and about, and creating memories together.

From relaxed days in the sun to active community outings, this week was all about connection, confidence, and trying new things. And for one of our participants, it even meant stepping well outside the comfort zone with a sky dive! What an incredible achievement and a moment that wont be forgotten.

Whether it’s everyday adventures or once-in-a-lifetime experiences, life is always better with a Brother by your side.

Please reach out if Brothers could help support you or a loved one.

What Our Community Says Matters Most

There’s nothing more powerful than hearing directly from the people who experience Brothers every day.

These words from participants, families, and community members reflect what we strive to create.

We’re incredibly grateful for the feedback, the stories, and the confidence placed in our team. It reminds us why we do what we do and motivates us to keep raising the standard.

Thank you to everyone who has shared their experience with us. Your voices mean everything.

🎄 Brothers Community Christmas Party 🎄

On Saturday, we came together for our annual Brothers Community Christmas Party and it was everything we hoped for and more.

It was incredible to see so many familiar faces alongside new families and community members coming to meet us for the first time. From BBQ and games to relaxed conversations and plenty of laughs, the day was all about connection.

These moments matter. They remind us that what we’re building at Brothers goes beyond support services, it’s community, belonging, and genuine relationships.

Seeing old and new families connect, participants enjoy themselves, and people show up simply to be part of it was something really special.

Thank you to everyone who joined us, supported the day, and helped make it such a meaningful celebration. Connection truly is the best way to wrap up the year.

Celebrating Our Brothers | 2025 Team Awards

At Brothers, our values aren’t just words, they’re lived every day through the actions of our team. This year, we’re proud to recognise four Brothers who truly embody what we stand for: Mateship, Growth Mindset, Humility, and Passion.
These awards celebrate the people who show up consistently, lead by example, and make a genuine difference in the lives of the men they support. We’re incredibly grateful for the impact they make every day.

🏆 Growth Mindset Award 2025: Gavin

The Growth Mindset Award recognises someone who doesn’t just talk about growth they live it every day.

Gavin couldn’t be with us on the night, as he was out doing night fishing in Noosa with a participant which really says everything you need to know.

Gavin supports a wide range of participants and consistently goes above and beyond. He’s always bringing forward ideas, looking for ways to help his participants grow, try new activities, and experience new things.

He is extremely reliable, works a significant number of hours each week, and never settles for “good enough.” Gavin is always looking to improve, do better, and genuinely change lives for the better.

That is what a growth mindset looks like in action, not just words, but lived values.
We’re incredibly lucky to have Gavin on the team, and this award is very well deserved.

👏 Congratulations Gavin

🏆 Mateship Award 2025: Jack

The Mateship Award recognises someone who truly represents what mateship looks like within the Brothers team.

Jack is one of those people who just connects effortlessly. No matter who he is supporting, he builds rapport quickly and makes people feel comfortable being themselves. He is reliable, supportive, and a great mentor to others.

Participants genuinely enjoy spending time with Jack, families feel confident when he’s around, and time and time again we hear the same feedback after introductions: “Can we please have him on the team?”

That kind of feedback doesn’t come from trying, it comes from being genuine, showing up consistently, knowing when to have a laugh, and modelling strong, positive relationships.

We’re very lucky to have Jack, and the impact he has across so many participants does not go unnoticed.

👏 Congratulations Jack

🏆 Humility Award 2025: Gerald

Humility isn’t about grand gestures or seeking recognition it’s about quiet strength, leading by example, and showing up without expectation.

The Brother receiving this award has embodied humility from the moment he joined Brothers. Through his willingness to listen, his generosity with his time, and the genuine care he shows his participants, Gerald consistently demonstrates what humility looks like in action.

His character is admirable. He’s always willing to have a chat, offer support, or simply be there when it matters. He leads without ego and supports without needing acknowledgement.

Gerald has been with Brothers since almost the beginning, and we are incredibly grateful that he continues to be such an important part of our family.

👏 Congratulations Gerald

🏆 Passion Award 2025: Kurt

If there is one word that defines Kurt, it’s passion.

Kurt joined Brothers in 2025 and from the very beginning has shown relentless dedication to his participants. He is always active in chats, sharing learnings, offering advice, and supporting both participants and fellow Brothers.

The relationships Kurt has built are strong, genuine, and deeply meaningful and it’s abundantly clear how much he cares about the people he supports.

Every conversation with Kurt reflects his commitment and energy. His passion for the work he does is unmistakable, and we’re proud to recognise that dedication.

👏 Congratulations Kurt

🏆 Brother of the Year 2025: Ollie Markey

Being a Brother isn’t just a role, it’s about defining what it means to live our values every single day.

This award was opened up to our wider community, and we want to sincerely thank everyone who took the time to vote. Your input matters, and we’re incredibly proud to announce our Brother of the Year for 2025.

From day one, Ollie has embodied everything Brothers stands for. He has consistently gone above and beyond always putting his hand up to cover shifts, stepping into extra opportunities, and showing up wholeheartedly in everything he does.

What truly sets Ollie apart is the respect and trust he’s built across our community. In all the time he’s been with us, we’ve never received a single piece of negative feedback only appreciation, gratitude, and praise from participants, families, and fellow Brothers.

While we’re honoured to celebrate Ollie with this award, it also comes with mixed emotions. Ollie is heading back home to Tassie in the coming days, and Brothers won’t be the same without him.

Thank you, Ollie, for the impact you’ve made, the standard you’ve set, and the legacy you leave behind. You will always be part of Brothers.

👏 Congratulations, Ollie
