Brothers Cooking Classes | Week 4
Week 4 - Final cooking class for our new chefs.
Our fourth and final cooking class wrapped up this week, and it was a fantastic way to finish the program.
From the moment the session started, the room was full of jokes, laughter, and relaxed conversation. The confidence and connection between participants was clear, something that has grown steadily over the past four weeks.
What We Made
• Frittata
• Toad in the Hole
• Shakshuka
• Pancakes
• Potato rösti
What Stood Out
Knife skills and overall confidence in the kitchen were night and day compared to the first session. Participants shopped independently, made decisions about what they wanted to cook, and took real ownership over the process.
Participants were given a shopping list with a guide price and made independent choices about what to buy and how to prepare it.
Engagement was high throughout.
Although there was some hesitation around making pancake batter from scratch, each participant mixed their own batter after a quick demonstration and cooked their pancakes with only minimal supervision. Seeing that confidence build in real time was a highlight of the day.
One participant took the lead cooking the potato rösti while others prepared their batter, showing great teamwork and time management. The frittata was enjoyed throughout the session, and the shakshuka, initially outside a couple of participants’ comfort zones ended up being a pleasant surprise. Despite one participant not liking cooked tomato and another avoiding raw tomato, both tried the dish and enjoyed it, showing a real willingness to step outside familiar food choices.
Final Reflection
As this was the final class, it was incredibly rewarding to see how far everyone had come.
In just four sessions, participants went from limited cooking confidence to talking about cooking more at home and asking when the classes would continue.
The only downside? That the program had to end!!
