Meet Michaela 👋 Our wonderful Occupational Therapist with a passion for supporting social skills and emotional regulation. Michaela loves helping children understand their emotions, build meaningful connections, and feel confident navigating their everyday environments.

What is your role?
I am an Occupational Therapist at Norman Park!

Why did you become an OT/SP
I became an OT because it aligns so closely with my passion for helping children participate in the things that are meaningful to them. I was initially enrolled in an OT degree with the intention of transferring into Physiotherapy, but very early on I discovered that Occupational Therapy was where my heart truly was. The holistic, child-centred approach really resonated with me, and I knew this was the profession I wanted to pursue.

What is your favourite part of your job?
My favourite part of my job is engaging in play with our BillyLids. Play is such a powerful tool, and it’s incredibly rewarding to see the positive impact it has on children’s emotional regulation, confidence, and overall development. Celebrating progress, no matter how small, is one of the most motivating parts of my work

What is your favourite resource?
My favourite resource would have to be the Lycra swing in our sensory gym. It’s such a versatile tool that supports both active play and calming regulation. Whether we’re pretending to explore the ocean in a submarine or gently relaxing in a calm sea, it’s a resource that brings joy and meaningful sensory input for everyone, including me!

Favourite area to work with?
My favourite area to work in is supporting social skills and emotional regulation. I love helping children develop the skills they need to understand their emotions, connect with others, and feel confident in their everyday environments.

💫 A big thank you to Mitch, Adam and Anthony from Astris PME for visiting BillyLids this week! 🙌

Our team had the opportunity to up-skill and explore a fantastic range of indoor seating, shower chairs, and commodes designed to support children. It’s always valuable to get hands-on with equipment and learn directly from product experts.

We’re committed to staying up to date with the latest options available and building strong connections with services that support our families 💙

Pragmatic language is the social side of communication 💬
Everyone communicates differently and that’s okay.
Pragmatic language is about how we use words, tone, gestures, and body language to connect with others in everyday moments.

Some children may communicate in ways that look different, especially in group play, friendships, or classroom settings. With understanding, support, and the right environments, children can develop social communication skills that work for them 🌱

Our latest blog explores:
• what pragmatic language is
• how it shows up in everyday life
• neuroaffirming ways to support social communication

Meet Paige, one of our incredible Speech Pathologists 🌈 Her passion for helping clients thrive, paired with her kind nature, makes her such a valued part of our team.

1. What is your role?
I’m a Speech Pathologist

2. Why did you become an OT/SP?
I always knew I wanted to help people and work with families closely, and had considered both teaching and medicine as potential career pathways. Speech pathology offers me a really nice blend of those fields and lots of variety in my caseload. I also used to see a speechie when I was a kid and remember how much fun our sessions were and how play-based our learning was.

3. What is your favourite part of your job?
My favourite part of my job is getting to see the 'a-ha' moment when a child grasps something we have been working on in therapy and how proud they are of themselves.

4. What is your favourite resource?
My favourite resource is the NERF guns and target

5. What is your favourite area to work with?
My favourite area to work with is speech sound disorders :)

Meet Ruby 🤍 She’s part of our incredible admin team keeping everything running smoothly in the clinic, we are so grateful for her!

What is your role at the clinic, what does a typical day look like for you?
I work as an administrator so I mainly work behind the scenes making sure the day runs smoothly and the clinic is clean and tidy for our clients! My day is packed with different duties, such as answering calls, managing appointments and invoices, tidying up around the clinic, and helping the clinicians with extra tasks.

What do you love most about working with our families and clinicians?
I love meeting all the clients who come through and having small conversations with parents, it’s good fun to meet all the faces! I find a sense of happiness in helping clients when they run into issues and helping our clinicians out when their hands get full. I also love learning more about speech pathology and occupational therapy, it really gives me a greater view on the field! I’m studying speech pathology at SCU so it’s really great to have these opportunities to learn from real professionals. :)

What’s a fun fact or something people might not know about you?
From years 8 and up in highschool I was an Australian Army Cadet with full intention to join the Australian Military upon graduation. I’ve always been interested in health so I was determined to become a Military Nurse or follow my mothers wishes and become a Peacekeeper. I’m 19 now and really happy with my choice to get into the Speech Pathology field :)

What’s your favourite part of being part of an allied health team?
Definitely getting to learn more in-depth about how OTs and SLPs work together to help people. It’s helpful to have an in-person view of how collaboration is done. It’s really inspiring to hear how well they help their clients and how well they work together despite being in separate fields!

Today is World Autism Awareness Day — but more importantly, it’s a reminder to move beyond awareness and toward acceptance, understanding, and inclusion.
Today (and every day), we choose to:
✨ Listen to autistic voices
✨ Respect all forms of communication
✨ Support, not suppress
✨ Create inclusive spaces
Because real change happens when we move from awareness → acceptance 🤍

Meet Abi 🤍 One of our incredible speech pathologists whose kindness, warmth, and dedication make such a difference to the children and families we support.

1. What is your role?
I’m a Speech-Language Pathologist at our Newmarket Clinic, supporting children and families through fun, play-based therapy.

2. Why did you become an OT/SP
I was drawn to speech pathology as it blends my interests in healthcare and teaching, allowing me to help children build skills that support their participation and confidence in everyday life.

3. What is your favourite part of your job?
My favourite part of the role is partnering with families to work toward meaningful goals and celebrating children’s successes both in and beyond the clinic.

4. What is your favourite resource?
Right now, I’m loving pretend play resources (kitchen sets, tea parties, dolls) for the language and imagination opportunities they create, alongside a long-time favourite and staple, shared book reading.

5. Favourite area to work with
While I enjoy all areas of practice, I’m especially passionate about speech, language and literacy development, with a strong focus on early intervention.
