Midlife boundaries hit different.
They’re less about keeping people out —
and more about keeping myself whole.
Which of these do you find hardest to practice?

Ever notice how tiredness lifts with rest, but burnout lingers — even when you slow down?

Midlife women carry so much — work, care, expectations — it’s no wonder we confuse the two.

Tired needs rest. Burnout needs recovery. There’s no shame in needing both.

This past weekend left me reflecting on just how important female friendships become in midlife.

I caught up with two of my closest and dearest friends — the kind of women I can be completely myself with. We talk about everything: the laughter, the tears, the big stuff, and the everyday bits in between.

Midlife brings so many shifts, changes, and transformations — careers, relationships, family, ageing parents, hormones, health, identity — sometimes it feels like we’re carrying the biggest emotional load of our lives.

That’s why it’s so important to invest in friendships that feel safe, mutual, and real. The ones where you can drop the mask, talk about all of it, and still laugh until your belly hurts.

True midlife friendship isn’t about numbers; it’s about nurture. It’s about choosing to invest in the people who invest in you.

🧡 I’d love to hear from you — what does female friendship in midlife look like for you, or what would you love it to look like?

About to interview Dr Katy for a future Midlife Reclaimed episode. Do you have any questions you'd like to ask about parental stress/burnout?

What happens when the system itself burns out?

In this episode of Midlife Reclaimed, I talk with Lazz Tomic about the human cost of workplace burnout — and why self-care alone isn’t enough when the culture’s not well.

đź’ We explore moral injury, values misalignment, and how professionals can find themselves exhausted by the very work they do.

If you’ve ever wondered why good people keep burning out — this conversation is for you.

🎧 Listen, follow, share, and leave a review to keep these stories flowing.

🌿 Rediscovering Meaning After Burnout 🌿

When I was in the depths of burnout and empathy fatigue, I felt completely disconnected — from myself, from my purpose, from anything that once felt meaningful.

Two questions slowly guided me home:

✨ What do I need?
✨ What do I value?

At first, I could only answer the first — what I needed to simply survive.
Over time, as my nervous system softened and I began to care for myself again, I could finally touch the second — what I value, what brings my life meaning.

As Dr Kristin Neff and Dr Christopher Germer write in Self-Compassion for Burnout, meeting our needs helps us survive, and living in alignment with our values helps us thrive.

If you’re in that place of tiredness or uncertainty, perhaps sit gently with these questions today.
See what rises. 🌻

✨ What burnout recovery really looks like in midlife ✨

It’s not just about rest (though rest matters).

True recovery is a journey of rediscovery — of your energy, truth, and creativity.
🌿 Relearning what brings you joy and safety
🌿 Unlearning old patterns like people-pleasing and perfectionism
🌿 Reconnecting with your body and nervous system
🌿 Practicing gentle, consistent somatic tools
🌿 Honouring your authenticity and taking courageous, compassionate action

This is the heart of my work — guiding midlife women to recover, reclaim, and rise again.
