Meet Emily ✨

A valued member of our KnOT team, Emily is our bubbly and motivated paediatric OT supporting families across Brisbane’s southside and Logan area. She is passionate about helping children build confidence, develop skills, and thrive. Emily works closely with educators and parents to support each child across settings, providing practical, tailored strategies that carry over into home, school, and the community.

What a lovely afternoon at this year’s Holy Spirit School New Farm Twilight Tour ✨

Thank you to Principal Bianca for hosting such a warm and welcoming event, and for inviting the team at KnOT to be part of the day.

From supporting children in their local kindies to helping with the transition into Prep and beyond, we’re grateful to be part of this journey with our families 🤍

We love collaborating alongside Alannah (Speech Therapist) from Learn and Grow, and seeing the children enjoy activities with our OT, Neilson (who may have also enjoyed a few chess lessons on the side 😊).

Thank you to the families who came along to experience the school and community, we’re so grateful to be part of the Holy Spirit New Farm community.

We’re excited to be part of Holy Spirit School New Farm’s upcoming Twilight Tour. A wonderful opportunity for families to explore the school, meet their amazing team, and experience the community.

As one of the schools we partner with, it’s been so special supporting families and staff at Holy Spirit. From supporting our kiddies in their local kindy’s to helping them transition into Prep, and continuing to support them within such a warm and close school community 🤍

Our therapists will be there to answer questions, connect with families, and we’ll have a few little goodies for children too.

If you’re a local family, it’s a lovely chance to visit. We’d love to see you there.

Our senior OTs Rachel and Marilyn spent the last week learning with Kim Barthel, exploring the powerful relationship between the vestibular and visual systems.

This neuroscience and evidence-based course bridged theory and real practice, with so much to bring back to our centres, educators and schools. So much knowledge and research to bring back to our families and children to support them 💛

📚 Back to school classroom support for teachers.

In our partnership with Down Syndrome & Intellectual Disability Queensland (DSIDQ), our team developed and delivered resources and professional learning sessions to support teachers working with students with Down syndrome and/or intellectual disability.

It explores:
• Understanding sensory processing differences
• How they show up in learning environments
• Practical strategies to support regulation, participation, and engagement

Creating supportive classrooms starts with understanding our students, not changing them.

So excited for the new Ripley centre opening January 2026 ✨
Over the years, we’ve loved supporting Wings with onsite training, from early years education to practical emotional regulation strategies, environmental adaptations, and conversations around the importance of early intervention.

We truly value community partnerships like these and the opportunity to work alongside educators and directors who are so passionate about supporting children’s development.

We can’t wait to see this new amazing centre in action! 🩵

🎄The holidays can be magical… and a little overwhelming for all of us 🩵
Excitement, late nights, big events, heat, and sensory overload can all impact regulation.

Here are a few tips from the team to support your family this festive season:

✨ Keep some routine where possible
✨ Incorporate festive movement and heavy work breaks (reindeer walks, elf jumps, polar bear crawls, sleigh pushes/pulls)
✨ Prepare children with visual schedules, countdowns, and simple, clear explanations for transitions
✨ Watch for sensory overload, during this time, there are a lot of lights, noise, new smells, crowds, and heat ☀️
✨ Bring familiar foods and comfort items (headphones, hats, sunglasses)
✨ Allow quiet time or breaks after busy events

✨ Meet Joanna, our warm and dedicated Senior Dietitian who is available to support new families! ✨

Joanna holds a Master of Nutrition and Dietetic Practice and is also a published author of research articles in her field. She works collaboratively with families, tailoring dietetic and nutrition advice for all ages, and can support specific areas such as food intolerances, poor appetite, and chronic disease.

With experience across clinics, food services, and research, Joanna brings a wealth of knowledge and a practical, family-centred approach to her work.

Outside of work, Joanna loves travelling with her family and friends and discovering new delicacies along the way.

We are so happy to have Joanna providing holistic support to our KnOT families. 💛

Helping Our Kids Feel Safe in the Storm 🌨

Cyclones can be scary for little ones, but you can help them feel safe with a few simple strategies:

✔ Co-regulation – Your calmness helps them stay calm.
✔ Coaching – Reassure them with comforting phrases.
✔ Regulators – Give them access to their favorite comfort and regulating items.
✔ Joyful Activities – Turn the storm into a cozy family time.
✔ Soothing Activities – Hugs, reading, and rocking can help.
