Meet Mary-Lou! 💙 Not many people can say they’ve spent 27 years doing work that genuinely matters to families. Mary-Lou can. We’re so excited to introduce her as part of the QUFW Toowoomba team.

With nearly three decades of experience, Mary-Lou has developed a particular interest in high risk and multiple pregnancies, offering families both careful guidance and quiet reassurance as they navigate what can sometimes be a complex journey.

One of the most meaningful parts of joining QUFW for her has been the chance to bring this level of care to women in regional and remote areas. She believes every family deserves access to high quality services without the added stress of travelling long distances to get them.

When she’s not in the clinic, Mary-Lou is a proud mum of three adult children and a firm believer in life’s simple pleasures. According to her, nothing beats a long lunch with good friends and a glass of great champagne. 🥂

March is Endometriosis Awareness Month 🎗️ This week we’ll dive into the different phenotypes of endometriosis and the ultrasound appearance of each.

Did you know there are 3 subtypes (phenotypes) of endometriosis that we can see on ultrasound?

- Ovarian endometriosis (OE)
- Deep endometriosis (DE)
- Superficial endometriosis (SE)

It is possible to have more than one subtype of endometriosis. In fact, when an ovarian endometrioma (OE) is identified during an ultrasound, it is a cue for our sonographers to look for deep endometriosis (DE).

It is important to remember that a person’s pain and symptoms may not directly correlate with the subtype of endometriosis seen on endometriosis. Some people with minimal SE may experience similar pain to a person with OE and/or DE.

When women thrive, we all rise. 💙

Happy IWD!

March is Endometriosis Awareness Month 💛

This month, we’re shining a light on the role of ultrasound in the assessment of endometriosis.
Extended endometriosis ultrasound scans, performed by an experienced sonographer, can be a powerful, non-invasive diagnostic tool.

At QUFW, we understand endometriosis is a complex condition and ultrasound may be the first of many steps towards diagnosis and treatment.

Same little face… just a different play of light ✨

This beautiful 3D image was captured using shadowing techniques to gently sculpt the contours of baby’s features. By adjusting the virtual light source within the volume, we can highlight tiny details, soften others, and reveal depth in a whole new way.

Have you ever wondered what the coloured areas on your ultrasound mean?

Many patients think it represents oxygenated and deoxygenated blood. Good guess, but it actually represents directional flow!
Let’s take a look…
Colour Doppler is a special ultrasound setting that lets your Sonographer see blood flow in real time.
Ultrasound machines can overlay colours to 2 dimensional gray images to show blood moving within vessels.
Your sonographer knows which way the blood ‘should’ be going and correlates that with the way it ‘is’ going.
Colour Doppler and spectral tracing can help us identify conditions such as fetal growth restriction (FGR), fetal heart malformation, preeclampsia and placental and cord issues in pregnancy.
Colour Doppler also has a key role in gynaecological ultrasound. It can help us to identify ectopic pregnancy, ovarian torsion, polyps, enhanced myometrial vascularisation (EMV) and suspicion of malignancy. It can also helps us characterise different types of cysts and intrauterine conditions.
Our Sonographers use colour Doppler everyday to enhance diagnostic accuracy and identify potential problems in pregnancy.

Experience matters! We are here for you.
