Back in October 2024 I wrote to my local Federal Member to express my deep concern with the changes made to the NDIS. In November, I received a reply from that Member's Electorate Officer!

It was a well-crafted response that largely stepped 'round the points I raised. I felt the effort expended in putting it together deserved acknowledgement, so I wrote back, see the link below.

A lot of my experience is around putting together a service-for-one for a person with disability. You can read about this service model here ... https://aboutmitchell.id.au/so-what-is-a-service-for-one/.

Some months ago Mitchell's father was asked on LinkedIn🔗 to explain what it is we do to provide for him. What follows is the first of two articles written to answer that question. The second article will follow soon. They are republished here for those not on LinkedIn. A recent Reasonable and Nec...

Here are two great blog posts by a family who have been working hard to make a good life for their special-needs son.

The first post explains how Mitchell's Allied Health team have worked together to make his life better, see https://aboutmitchell.id.au/maximising-the-value-of.../

The second post explains why I think we have been successful in plotting a way forward for Mitchell's life ... and why the NDIS Review gets this wrong! See https://aboutmitchell.id.au/the-ndis-review-and-outcomes/

It is February 2024, the NDIS Review recommendations have been available for nearly 3 months. They have generated alot ... ALOT ... of debate. It seems everyone has an opinion everyone else needs to hear! The topics aired include the performance of the NDIA, the role of the NDIS Quality and Safeguar...

Being in Mitchell's life Mitchell is seen as 'a little different' to many people and so does not have many friends in his life. His family are working to change that. They have put energy into building up the circle of friends around Mitchell to help support him - this is often called a circle

I have led numerous rounds of recruitment to help find that right support worker for an NDIS Participant. Helping to hire someone to support a person impacted by a disability has challenged me to re-think the approach I had used successfully in my engineering career. Though skills and training matter, these things are secondary to the attitude a support worker brings to their role.

Compassion, empathy and the right motivation are key. These are not things typically learnt in a classroom.

On this foundation, you can build the knowledge and skills to truly help others live a better, safer life.
