International Women’s Day 💗

What an incredible morning in Brisbane.

Thousands of people came together for the International Women's Day Fun Run, supporting the amazing work of Mater Chicks in Pink and raising funds for women and families affected by breast cancer.

The streets were filled with pink shirts, laughter and encouragement. It was inspiring to see people of all ages walking and running together for such an important cause.

Together as a community, over $2 million has been raised, helping fund research, care and support for women facing breast cancer.

At Next Practice Newstead we feel very privileged to care for so many incredible women in our community every day. Supporting women’s health, prevention and wellbeing is something we care deeply about.

Days like this remind us how powerful a community can be when people come together for something bigger than themselves.

To everyone who ran, walked, volunteered or donated today, thank you for being part of it.

✨ Doctor Spotlight: Dr Marija Lugonja MBBS, MRCGP, FRACGP, DFSRH ✨

Now welcoming new patients, Dr Marija Lugonja provides considered, precision-led GP care at Next Practice Newstead.

A graduate of the University of London, Dr Marija completed her General Practice training in the UK and attained Membership of the Royal College of General Practitioners. She also holds a Diploma of the Faculty of Sexual and Reproductive Healthcare from the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists and is a Fellow of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners.

Dr Marija is a registered Antenatal Shared Care Provider and works closely with local hospital and midwifery teams to support women throughout pregnancy.

Her clinical focus includes:

• Women’s health and IUD procedures
• Family planning and sexual health
• Preventative medicine
• Mental health
• Travel health
• Corporate health assessments

💙 February is Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month

Ovarian cancer remains one of the most serious women’s health conditions in Australia.

The numbers are sobering...

• Around 1,900 Australian women are diagnosed each year
• More than 1,000 women lose their lives annually
• It is responsible for 1 in 20 female cancer deaths
• The overall 5 year survival rate is approximately 49%
• There is currently no reliable early screening test

Symptoms are often vague and non specific, which is why awareness and timely medical review matter.
