📣 REMINDER: Protest + BONUS Legal Briefing!

This Friday the police and the Housing Minister are still intending to evict David from his home in Taringa.

The Minister could put an end to this right now by calling up the police and telling them not to execute the warrant.

In the last few days, the Department of Housing has said that they can move David into TEMPORARY housing at a hotel Spring Hill. He would only have a 3 month lease, and would be subject to some truly absurd rules and conditions. More importantly there is still no long-term plan to get David housing. Moving would also mean increasing his rent by 50% and removing him from his community of 25+ years.

❗We will still be going ahead with the protest on Friday ❗ since that's when the eviction is scheduled to happen. Details in the event below.👇

We can tell that even announcing this protest has already put a lot of pressure on the Department of Housing.

Last night we revisited the Telstra monolith at Woolongabba. We discovered we could get access to the abandoned apartments across the road, so we negotiated the thoroughly trashed building & projected from the 3rd floor balcony of a burnt-out flat. This gave us an excellent angle, but we discovered that the ambient light has increased due to the Cross River Rail building site, so next time we'll just project black & white to maximise brightness.

I’m so pleased to introduce myself to you as the Greens candidate for the seat of Ryan in the upcoming Federal election.

Ryan is one of the top 10 seats in the country for the Greens at the next election. This is because in Ryan the Greens are on a roll. With my friend and local MP Michael Berkman resoundingly re-elected last year, and a rising Greens vote all across the electorate, a swing against the LNP of just 5% could help the Greens take Ryan.

I’m also looking forward to campaigning in Ryan to help the Greens win a second senator in Queensland and take the balance of power in the Senate.

I’m a long-term resident of St Lucia and ran my own successful architectural practice in St Lucia and Auchenflower for 21 years. My career as an architect has focussed on sustainable design of our built environments, greening our cities, urban resilience, accessibility, and social equity.

I believe that in a wealthy country like Australia, no one should be without a roof over their head, and that providing well designed housing for all is absolutely central to a viable economy and equitable society. The Greens’ policy of making the billionaires and big corporations pay their fair share means we can afford quality public housing, free education, free childcare, free and Australian-made vaccines, and dental and mental health included in Medicare.

Earth day is no day to be talking about recycling, planting trees or picking up litter. Nor is it a day to pick up small habits for you, as an individual, to reduce your own carbon footprint.

Today is another day to hold banks, governments and multi-million dollar corporations, who continue to exploit the everyday working family, to account.

Their claims to serve us are only distractions while they play monopoly with our lives and hoard their wealth in their guarded mansions.

The words climate change have become household words. More experts are speaking up about the knowledge they hold. More retired leaders are opening up about how they were banned from talking about certain topics as they were deemed too political. More and more people are experiencing the climate crisis first hand, disproportionately by those who contribute the least to the causes of the climate and ecological crisis. This is all within one of the worlds worst health pandemics we have had to face.

Yet, the people who could make the most positive changes on this planet could not care less. Do they care if their children loose their homes? No! Why? Because they have enough money to build them another one and another one and another one. While we have to wait, rotting in a carvan park, for the insurance companies (if our house was insured) to approve the material worth of damage before we can afford to try and rebuild somewhat of a home for our families and hope that we don’t fall victim to another ‘natural’ disaster.

Instead all they do is put money into producing greenwashing material and false solutions that puts the blame and responsibility onto the individuals and not onto their businesses raking in the dollars. They divide us and make it seem like we are a threat to each other.

This Earth Day, lets hold these climate criminals to account and stop business as usual until they do what is necessary.

We need a Binding Citizens Assembly to reach net zero emissions by 2025. They have delayed real action for decades, we cannot delay any further. 2050 is too late.

Stand up against this corruption through non-violent direct action now!
