Ever wondered why your child’s behaviour feels so big?

Recently, one of our Positive Behaviour Support practitioners presented to early childhood educators on understanding big behaviours in young children.
What educators are learning is just as helpful for parents.

Big behaviours like meltdowns, clinginess, shutting down or emotional outbursts, aren’t about children being naughty. They’re often a sign that a child is overwhelmed and doesn’t yet have the skills to manage big feelings or explain what they need.

When we understand the why behind behaviour, it becomes easier to respond with calm, clarity and connection, while still keeping boundaries.

The same principles that support children in early learning settings can make day to day parenting feel more manageable too.

Social workers make a difference in ways many people don’t see - but almost everyone feels.

They’re often the steady voice, the calm presence and the practical support that helps people navigate some of life’s toughest moments.

In our community, social workers support everyday people by:
- Helping families access the services they need
- Providing guidance during major life changes
- Supporting mental and emotional wellbeing
- Advocating for people who may feel unheard
- Connecting individuals with resources that make daily life safer and more manageable

Their work isn’t just about crisis support, it’s about empowering people to move forward with confidence, dignity and hope.

We’re proud to have qualified social workers as part of our allied health team, ready to support individuals, families and organisations with compassionate, evidence‑informed care.

If you or someone you know could benefit from social work support, our team is here to help.

Harmony Week is a beautiful reminder of what makes our communities so special - people from all cultures, languages, and walks of life coming together with respect and kindness.

As an allied health team, we’re lucky to see this diversity every day. We meet families with rich stories, unique traditions, and different ways of seeing the world. It’s a privilege to support each person in a way that honours who they are and what matters to them.

This week, we’re reflecting on how we can continue to create spaces where everyone feels welcome by:
- Listening with curiosity and compassion
- Respecting cultural values and communication styles
- Making our services accessible and inclusive
- Learning from the communities we work with
- Celebrating the strengths that diversity brings

Harmony Week reminds us that belonging isn’t just a theme, it’s something we build together, one interaction at a time.

🧡 Happy Harmony Week. Everyone belongs.

At some point, every one of us faces challenges that test our mental and emotional strength. The good news is that resilience isn’t something you either have or don’t have, it’s a skill we can build, nurture, and strengthen over time.

At our practice, we see resilience as a combination of small, everyday habits that support mental wellbeing, such as:
- Staying connected with people who lift you up
- Practising self‑compassion, especially on the tough days
- Setting healthy boundaries to protect your energy
- Taking mindful moments to pause, breathe, and reset
- Seeking support early, not only when things feel overwhelming.

Resilience doesn’t mean “pushing through” or pretending everything is fine. It means recognising your needs, honouring your limits, and giving yourself permission to grow at your own pace.

If you’re looking to strengthen your mental wellbeing or would like guidance from our allied health team, we’re here to support you. You don’t have to navigate it alone.

Let’s build resilience, together.

🌈 Growing our capacity to support all identities 🌈

At Transforming Life in Change, we are deeply committed to creating affirming, inclusive, and safe spaces for every person we support. This morning, our team had the privilege of learning from Hon. Prof. Resh Ramasamy (GFTE) — and the session was nothing short of transformative.

Resh, an autistic q***r person of colour and a leader in counselling, behavioural practice, and research at ACAP University College, shared powerful insights on gender and sexual diversity, and the ways these identities intersect with neurodiversity and lived experience. His depth of knowledge and lived wisdom helped us strengthen our understanding and grow our capacity to support our diverse community even better.

💬 What this learning means for our clients:
✔️ More culturally responsive and identity‑affirming support
✔️ A deeper understanding of the varied ways people express gender and sexuality
✔️ Greater confidence in creating spaces where clients feel seen, safe, valued, and celebrated
✔️ Continued movement from awareness → action → truly inclusive practice

We’re grateful for the honest conversations, rich perspectives, and thoughtful guidance that will help us continue to evolve as a service committed to inclusivity, dignity, and human rights.

A heartfelt thank you to Resh for sharing his expertise and for his leadership through initiatives like Hearts Without Borders, which brings care, advocacy and community action to life.

🌱 We are committed to growing, learning, and standing alongside every person as their authentic selves.

Today we celebrate the incredible women who hold our communities together, at home, at work, and across our health and wellbeing sectors.

✨In Australia, 60.4% of women over 15 are employed, contributing their skills, care and leadership across every industry.
✨In particular, in healthcare, women continue to drive growth and impact, with allied health professions seeing a 67% increase in active registered professionals over the past decade.

At Transforming Life in Change, we see the power of women every day, supporting clients, creating safe spaces, leading trauma‑informed care, and shaping healthier futures for families and communities.

To all the women showing up with strength, compassion and resilience… we honour you today and always. 💛

💛 A Little Late, But Worth Saying… 💛

We might be posting a day after World Compliment Day, but celebrating kindness and appreciation never goes out of date. In fact, we think every day is the right day to recognise the good in one another.

At Transforming Life in Change, we know how far a genuine compliment can go. A few heartfelt words can lift someone’s mood, strengthen relationships, and remind people that they are valued, whether it’s in our homes, workplaces, or our wider community.

Compliments create connection.
Connection builds confidence.
And confidence fuels wellbeing.

So even though the official day has passed, we’re leaning in now, encouraging our community to pause, notice the strengths in others, and name them.

If someone has made a difference in your life lately, tell them.
If a colleague’s effort stood out, acknowledge it.
If a friend showed kindness, let them know it mattered.

Let’s keep the spirit of World Compliment Day going, today and every day. Kindness doesn’t need a calendar date. 💛

Children’s Mental Health Week is a reminder that children don’t always tell us what they’re feeling, often they show us.

Big emotions can come out as meltdowns, shutdowns, worries, or behaviour changes. And that’s okay. Children are still learning how to understand their feelings and not every child can talk it out yet.

That’s why creative approaches can be so helpful.
🎨 Art therapy helps kids express feelings when words are hard
🧸 Play therapy supports emotional regulation through play, which is often their natural language
🌱 Creative counselling builds self confidence, understanding, and coping skills

These therapies can help children:
✨ Feel safe and understood
✨ Express emotions in healthy ways
✨ Build resilience and self awareness
✨ Feel a sense of belonging

At TLC, these are the ways we work with children every day. We meet your child where they’re at — no pressure, no forcing conversations — just connection, creativity, and support.

💬 If you’re a parent wondering whether your child might benefit from a more gentle, creative approach, we’re here to help.

📩 Send us a message to learn more about how we support children and families.

💛 You’re not alone, and your child doesn’t have to navigate big feelings alone either.

🗣️ It’s Time to talk day! 🗣️

Mental health affects every single one of us, yet for so many people, it still feels hard to talk about.
Today is a powerful reminder that conversation saves lives.

You don’t need the perfect words.
You don’t need to “fix” anything.

Sometimes, simply asking “How are you really going?” and being willing to listen can ease a burden someone has been carrying alone. 💛
Small conversations can break down huge stigmas.
They can create connection, hope, and a sense of “I’m not alone.”

So today, let’s pause and think: Who is one person you could check in on?
A friend. A family member. A colleague. Or even yourself. ❤️

Let’s keep the conversations going - today and every day.

🫀 Why does your heart race when you’re overwhelmed?

When life feels like too much, your body often hits the stress button.
A racing heart is one of the first signs your nervous system has gone into fight or flight, even if there’s no physical danger.
Basically, your body is trying to protect you.

🚩 Other common signs of overwhelm you might notice include:
• Shallow or fast breathing
• Tight shoulders or jaw
• Feeling irritable, teary, or numb
• Racing thoughts or brain fog
• Trouble concentrating
• Withdrawing or zoning out

These signs aren’t weakness, they’re signals. Catching them early can help you pause, regulate, and be kinder to yourself before burnout sets in.
Your body is communicating.
Listening matters 💚
