Birth has a way of shaping us, it teaches, stretches, and sometimes surprises us. The wisdom we gain in hindsight is powerful, and sharing it can help the mothers coming behind us.

✨ Birth work is so much more than a “job.”

When I walked away from this birth, I sat in my car and just cried. I always get emotional after leaving because so much of myself goes into supporting my clients , my love, my prayers, my energy, my presence.

For a season, I walk closely alongside a family. I hold space through the highs and lows of pregnancy, I breathe with them through the intensity of labour, and I pour my heart into supporting them as they welcome their baby earthside. And then… life moves forward. Yes, many clients become friends, but it’s never quite the same as those raw, sacred hours spent together in the birth space.

Hearing words like “The most beautiful support person I could ask for during pregnancy, labour & birth” fills me with so much gratitude. It reminds me why I do this — because every mother deserves to feel seen, supported, and cared for on every level: mentally, physically, and emotionally.

Being invited into someone’s birth space is one of the greatest honours of my life. 🌿

It's a Myth: “You have to be at 10cm before you can push, and 10cm is the maximum your cervix can stretch.”

Full dilation (around 10cm) is a guideline, not a strict rule. Some babies are ready to descend slightly earlier, and gentle pushing can begin before the cervix reaches 10cm.

The cervix and pelvic tissues are naturally flexible—depending on the baby’s size and position, the cervix can stretch beyond 10cm to allow a safe, smooth birth.

Every body and every baby is unique—textbook numbers are helpful, but not limits.

Trusting the body’s rhythm, combined with support and patience, often leads to a gentler birth.

✨ Skin-to-skin is more than bonding ✨

When a baby is placed on their mother’s chest immediately after birth, something incredible happens. It’s not just about cuddles — it’s biology at its finest.

💛 Breathing & Heartbeat
A newborn’s breathing and heart rate naturally stabilise against the rhythm of their mother’s chest. That steady beat and rise-and-fall of breath act like a guide, showing baby how to settle into life outside the womb.

💛 Warmth & Regulation
A mother’s body is designed to be her baby’s first “home” even after birth. Her chest temperature can rise or fall by a degree to warm or cool her baby as needed — an inbuilt incubator, far more responsive than any machine.

💛 Hormones & Healing
Skin-to-skin also sparks oxytocin — the “love hormone.” This not only deepens the bond between mother and child but also supports milk production, reduces maternal bleeding, and calms both nervous systems.

💛 The Sacred Pause
In moments like these, with baby still attached, skin against skin, and the world held at bay, we see the wisdom of birth. Nothing is rushed. Nothing is forced. Just pure connection, transition, and trust in what the body already knows.

Skin-to-skin isn’t an “extra.” It’s the blueprint. The way nature has always intended mother and baby to meet. 🌿
