Books do more than tell stories. They keep our minds active, curious, and engaged.

Research shows that regular reading can help slow cognitive decline, support memory, and keep the brain sharper for longer, especially as we age. It’s a simple habit with powerful benefits.

One of our lovely participants absolutely loves trips to the library, choosing books that spark her joy and interest. These visits aren’t just about reading. They’re about routine, independence, and taking time to do something meaningful.

Our local Brisbane Libraries make the experience even better. With easy-to-use technology for borrowing and returning books, comfortable spaces, and welcoming staff, the library is not only practical but a genuinely nice place to spend time.

Whether it’s getting lost in a good story, learning something new, or simply enjoying a quiet space, reading is a beautiful way to care for the mind and the soul.

Some days remind us why joy matters.

Today our support staff spent time with our littlest client, and she made one thing very clear… when there’s music, there must be dancing. No excuses. No bad moods allowed.

With smiles, she turned an ordinary day into a dance floor and gently reminded us adults that fun doesn’t need a reason. Even when the day feels a little bleak, there’s always room to move, laugh, and let go for a moment.

Watching her dance was a lesson in perspective. Joy can be loud, silly, spontaneous, and absolutely contagious.

Safe to say, we were the ones learning today. And our dance moves still need work 😃

Last week, we said goodbye to one of our long-time participants as he moved interstate to be closer to his family.

We’ve had the privilege of supporting Bob since the very beginning of our operation, and it’s never easy to say goodbye to someone who has been part of our journey for so long.

While we’re sad to see him go, we’re genuinely happy for him. Being closer to family in a new place means continued connection, support, and the next chapter of his life, and we know he’ll be well supported there, just as he has been with us.

It’s also been a pleasure supporting Bob alongside his gentle giant of an assistance dog, Noah, who has been a constant and calming presence every step of the way.

Bob’s departure also means we now have some additional capacity to support new participants. If you’d like to discuss your support needs, please feel free to get in touch and we’d be happy to have a conversation at a time that suits you.

We wish Bob and Noah nothing but the very best in their new home and future adventures. You’ll always be part of the Wise Willow story.

💚

Colours and artwork have a quiet way of sneaking into our hearts and lifting our mood - don't you think?

The moment we saw this on the wall, we smiled - and took a couple of quick snaps, of course!

A splash of colour can turn an ordinary moment into something lighter. Bright tones energise us, and soft hues calm us. Art gives our minds permission to pause, to wander, to feel curious and playful again.

That’s why art makes us smile. It reminds us of beauty, possibility, and the simple pleasure of being human. Sometimes, all it takes is a bit of colour to brighten the day 🎨

There’s something quietly magical about working with clay 🤍

It slows the mind, grounds the body, and lets creativity flow - no rules, no pressure, just hands and imagination.

Clay art isn’t just fun; it’s wonderfully therapeutic. The gentle kneading, rolling, and shaping help improve hand strength, coordination, and fine motor skills, while the repetitive movements can feel deeply calming, almost like a form of meditation. One moment at a time, one shape at a time.

With the support of our amazing staff, our client enjoys clay art right at home, in a safe and relaxed environment. It’s about more than creating something beautiful - it’s about confidence, focus, movement, and the simple joy of making.

Sometimes therapy doesn’t look like therapy at all… it looks like laughter, messy hands, and a little piece of art made with pride 🎨

When summer heat hits hard, sometimes all you want is a cool, air-conditioned space, iced coffee, and some comfort food. Sounds perfect, right? ☀️❄️☕

With that in mind, Adam took our lovely client to VEND Marketplace yesterday, and it was a winner. If you haven’t been yet, Vend is Brisbane’s biggest indoor market supporting local small businesses and it’s open seven days a week. There’s always something happening, from pop-up markets on the lawn to workshops and new stalls to explore.

Add in an amazing retro café serving fantastic breakfast, lunch, and coffee, plenty of onsite parking, and the bonus of being dog-friendly, and you’ve got the perfect escape from the scorching heat.

So next time you feel like heading out for a coffee or a meal and want to browse a market without melting in the sun, Vend might just be the spot. Cool vibes, great food, and something new to discover every visit 😎

Does the Monday blues hit you today? You’re not alone. Mondays can feel heavy, especially when the weekend felt too short and the week ahead feels long.

Sometimes, the best way to shake it off is to get out for a bit. Take a gentle walk around your neighborhood, feel the fresh air, watch a movie at the cinema, or pop into your favourite café for a smoothie. A small change of scenery can do wonders for your mood.

You don’t have to do anything big to reset your day. Just moving your body, seeing familiar faces, or treating yourself to something you enjoy can help turn Monday around.

Here’s to starting the week with small moments of care and a little kindness for yourself 🌿💛

With the heat being a little unbearable at times these days, we’ve found a pretty great solution… a movie day! 🎬🍿

Relaxing in a fully air-conditioned cinema with comfy seats and popcorn sounds like a perfect way to escape the heat, don't you think? Browse what’s playing at your local cinema, make a plan with your support worker or friends, and turn it into a fun day out.

And a friendly reminder, if you have a Companion Card, don’t forget to bring it along. Most cinemas accept it, which makes outings even easier.

Stay cool, sit back, and enjoy the show. Have a great movie day! 🎥✨
