At Specialist Psychiatric Recovery Therapies, we use guided-discovery to coach families and (health) professionals on how to use 'whole-brain' thinking to help patients recover and reduce practitioner stress, overload and burnout.

FOR SHELDON COOPER

(professionals, nerds, intellectuals, academics, and mental health practitioners)

Outline of some of the areas we specialise in:

β—Š Homeostatics (self-regulation, self-healing) spanning a range of tangible and intangible domains. Homeostatics, for example, facilitates neuroplasticity ("The Brain That Heals Itself", Psychiatrist and Psychotherapist Norman Doidge).

β—Š Epistemics or cognitive science (intelligences: multiple, existential, transcendent, transpersonal).

β—Š Psychotherapy (mind).

β—Š Pneumatherapy (spirit, for example 12 Steps of AA, NA, Betty Ford Clinic).

β—Š Pneumatology (science and study of the human spirit, emergent).

β—Š Pneumatoxicology (emergent; spiritual toxins such as lawless legalism, immoral moralism, egoism, materialism, sectarianism, clericalism, creedalism, Nicaean ethnocentrism, dogma, literalism, supremacist gnosticism, Pharisaism or Saulism, sexism, and racism).

β—Š E-CBT or Extended Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT plus Advanced 12 Steps Therapy, emergent framework).

We do our best to simplify the above and integrate it as seamlessly as possible just beyond the comfort zone of those we serve. This involves generativity which a leading 'whole-brain' therapist defines as: "The ability to administer tension without abuse in order to replicate".

We rely on guided discovery (the Socratic Method) to drive agency, autonomy, awakening, and learning.

We also work to popularise and democratise the science, methods, and thinking of Einstein, namely Synthesis Powered Analysis (integrative and holistic 'whole-brain' thinking and approaches).

This moderates and/or avoids overwhelm and burnout in life, work, business and government.

Our default setting in the West is to ignore Einstein and friends by majoring in analysis ('left-brain') and minoring in synthesis ('right-brain').

We are tech heavy and people light. Digital Transformation? Yay! People Transformation? Nah!

This is like driving a Ferrari in first gear, all the time, at high speed, in the dark, with no lights...

Boom!

Our obsession with 'left-brain' only thinking and solutions is needless and brutal...

As a leading 'whole-brain' therapist observes: "Treating the symptoms PREVENTS the cure."

What would it take for you to get behind the overlooked solution to your biggest problems?

RECOVERY

While the concept and reality of recovery from mental illness has been established for decades, many are still unaware and believe that recovery is either impossible or rare.

This mindset feeds the reality of the revolving door in mental health and the lack of recovery oriented therapies that treat the root causes of mental dysregulation and dysfunction (most notably authoritarianism, heartlessness, toxic workplaces, toxic relationships, social disconnection, social recession, loneliness, crime, violence, coercion, abuse, and injustice).

The Australian government has published a document that could help recovery become less aspiration and more realty:

Professors of Psychiatry like Courtenay Harding and colleagues have researched, published, and written extensively about recovery, over several decades:

The Vermont longitudinal study of persons with severe mental illness, II: Long-term outcome of subjects who retrospectively met DSM-III criteria for schizophrenia
CM Harding, GW Brooks, T Ashikaga, JS Strauss, A Breier
American journal of Psychiatry 144 (6), 727-735
Google Scholar: 1987, 1812 citations

"The authors present the findings from a long-term follow-up study of 118 patients from Vermont State Hospital who, when rediagnosed retrospectively, met DSM-lll criteria for schizophrenia at their index hospitalization in the mid-1950s. The patients were studied with structured, reliable, multivariate instrument batteries by raters who were blind to information in their records. The rediagnostic process is described, and results of the follow-up are presented. Outcome varied widely, but one-half to two-thirds of the sample had achieved considerable improvement or recovered, in contrast to statements in DSM-lll that predict a poor outcome for schizophrenic patients."
