Meditation is like opening a magical door to your inner world. The practice of meditation appears across many world cultures and has been around for a very very long time. You don’t need a guru or a special technique to start meditating. Techniques & intellectualizing anything to do with meditating actually involves thinking ! Meditation involves taking no thought. During meditation if you do have obtrusive & reoccurring thoughts acknowledge them and let them go. Meditation is a practice you can do daily for 5 minutes or an hour or longer, it’s up to you. Meditation requires finding time to connect with your being. Meditation can be an ‘active’ practice using ‘visualisation’ or ‘passive’ by eliminating thoughts and receiving insights & feeling connected to the universe. You can meditate by sitting in a chair on a yoga mat or in the Lotus position or on the bus. You may like to light incense or softly play soothing music of your choice in the background. If you would like to try meditating get into a comfortable position, close your eyes & focus on the rhythm of your breath, the rise and fall of your chest. Tune in and listen to the layered sounds around you and relax. Relax relax relax. Presto ! With practice you’ll be in the zone 🧚🏽‍♀️🧚🏽‍♀️🧚🏽‍♀️

Hi 👋 Dance Movement and Art Classes for adults once a month starting Friday 30th of May 6pm. Wear comfortable clothing, bring a water bottle, yoga mat and a pillow. No prior art or dance experience required. This class is a fun and gentle expressive / creative dance style using the body to release emotions and patterns. The facilitator is a Masters level Counsellor and Arts Therapist with an interest in using dance as a Somatic release tool. This class is like using dance as meditation in a safe and fun atmosphere where self expression is liberating.

Meditation and Sound Bath class funded by Brisbane City Council Gold programme every Tuesday 10-11 am till the end of June 2025. The facilitator ( Lidia) uses guided meditation, crystal singing bowls, Tibetan handcrafted metal bowls, drums, tunning forks and a variety of other musical instruments to create an ambience calm & induce relaxation. Come and experience the many benefits of Meditation & Sound Therapy at Sherwood Neighbourhood Centre. Please book on 33796963. In this class you will also learn techniques to realign your nervous system to feel calm and safe. Lidia is a Masters level Counsellor and qualified Arts Therapist and has been facilitating these classes for many years .

Hi 👋 it’s Lidia here from ‘ Healing Pathways Counselling’, hope all is well enough in your world. The fight,flight, freeze,fawn and fix responses have been established nervous system responses. We have come to know these responses as stress that induces high levels of cortisol. Stress occurs when an individual perceives they don’t have enough ‘resources’ to deal with a situation, it can be a one off or a chronic situation. ‘Fix’ means placating or people pleasing that has been recently acknowledged as a stand alone response. Although in this image it is included under ‘fawn’. Some signs you may be dealing with high levels of cortisol in your system or stress maybe include eye twitching, bloating, increased teariness, mouth breathing, hair loss, exhausted by 3pm, midnight scrolling, brain fog, dry mouth, blurred vision and increased unexplained heart palpitations. Hi 👋 All, hope all is going well in your respective worlds. Its Lidia here from Healing Pathways Counselling. December can be a crazy town time of year especially leading up to Christmas. Sometimes there are high expectations, financial strains, challenging meet ups with family and keeping up appearances with ‘the Jones’ kind of vibe. This December be kind to yourself and others if you can. Decide what Christmas or the holiday season means to you and go from there. Sending you peace this Christmas and holiday season. 💜

When we perceive an event /something or someone outside of ourselves supporting us we usually activate our parasympathetic nervous system which is commonly known as our rest & digest state. In this state our body supports us by releasing dopamine & other ‘happy chemicals’. Conversely if someone critiques us or challenges us usually our testosterone & cortisol levels go up. In other words we become more defensive. This is commonly referred to as our flight, fight, fawn or fix response that is activated in our sympathetic nervous system. These changes from positive states to negative states and vice versa happen within 200 milliseconds ! In other words your chemistry changes on your ratio of PERCEPTION and it fluctuates throughout the day. Festering issues from the past, dormant in the subconscious also can impact our nuero chemistry. This is know as our ‘baggage’ . This baggage preferably needs to be safely acknowledged, dissolved and resolved so that physiological signs and symptoms are kept in check, transformation can occur and a self directed future imagined. I have synthesised this short blurb from many sources & influences including the work of Dr Bruce Lipton, Dr Joe Dispenza Dr Porges, Dr Martini & Gregg Braden to name a few. Please do your own research if you are interested in knowing more or contact a qualified therapist. This is known as ‘ doing inner work’ that provides insights via self reflection & it’s usually undertaken when your ready.
