Most people think aging is purely cosmetic.

However your skin, hair and body reflect what’s happening internally often long before visible changes appear.

This is why topical products alone may not deliver lasting results. And why, over time, what once worked may no longer be enough.

As we age, the body’s natural repair, regeneration, and cellular communication processes can slow. Supporting these underlying biological pathways is key to maintaining healthy skin, hair, and overall vitality.

At Formulae Albion, Mary Lou and the team take a different approach.

Rather than focusing only on surface-level treatments, their focus is on supporting the body’s internal environment, including nutrient status, gut health, hormonal balance, and cellular repair, to create the optimal conditions for regeneration.

This is not about trends or quick fixes. It is about working with biology to support long-term skin, hair, and metabolic health.

Many of the most effective strategies begin internally, supporting the body at its foundation.

Do you have any of these nail signs? 👀

• ridges
• brittle or peeling nails
• white spots
• spoon-shaped nails
• colour changes
• slow or weak growth

They’re not just cosmetic.

Your nails are made from keratin and rely on a steady supply of minerals, iron, protein, and trace nutrients to grow properly — so when something’s off internally, they’re often the first place it shows.

Sometimes it’s:
– low iron
– zinc or B vitamin deficiencies
– poor absorption
– mineral imbalances
– or even heavy metal load

Instead of guessing… we always suggest testing.

An Oligoscan is a non-invasive scan that measures your intracellular heavy metals, minerals, and trace elements using light spectroscopy, giving a real data to guide personalised support.

✨ Clarity > guesswork

If you’ve noticed changes in your nails, it might be worth taking a closer look. Please make an appointment with our team via the link in bio and we can organise a test for you.

Why skincare often stops working after 40 💫

There’s a moment many women quietly notice.

You’re still investing in quality products.
Still following a thoughtful routine.
Still doing all the “right” things.

And yet… your skin doesn’t respond the way it used to.

Because after 40, skin changes aren’t only surface-level.

They’re cellular.

When internal systems are under strain, topical products become maintenance not repair.

They can polish what’s there.
But they can’t rebuild what’s missing.

Applying pre-40 strategies to post-40 biology is like using the wrong map in a new country.

So most women escalate:
more expensive
more active
more aggressive

But stronger products on a stressed system often lead to irritation, thinning and reactivity not resilience.

At The Lab, we see skincare as the final layer.

Not the foundation.

The foundation is internal:
• Cellular energy
• Hormonal balance
• Nutrient status
• Circulation
• Inflammatory control
• Repair pathways

When known, supported, and optimised, skin begins to respond again.

Not because the cream changed.
Because the body did.

You’ve seen it.
Women in their 40s, 50s, 60s with calm, luminous, resilient skin.

That glow comes from internal coherence, not a miracle product.

For some women, this may include personalised support like nutrients, hormones, or practitioner-guided peptide therapies.

Because ageing isn’t something to fight. It’s something to support intelligently.

If you’re curious about a more inside-out approach to skin and longevity, we’re here to help.

Depression, heart disease, metabolic issues, autoimmune conditions, chronic fatigue, allergies, cognitive decline and more are all associated with chronic inflammation.

So what’s driving so much inflammation?

One major factor 👉 diet.

Modern diets are often high in inflammatory foods and low in the very nutrients that help the body regulate inflammation naturally.

The good news?
Food is also one of our most powerful anti-inflammatory tools.

🌱 Plant-based foods contain over 25,000 phytochemicals, many with anti-inflammatory properties.
🎨 Colourful fruits and vegetables are rich in polyphenols — some of nature’s most effective inflammation-modulating compounds.
🫒 Extra virgin olive oil contains oleocanthal, a compound shown to activate similar inflammatory pathways as common pain relievers — without the same side-effect profile.

Reducing inflammatory foods and intentionally adding anti-inflammatory ones can make a meaningful difference over time.

✨ At The Compounding Lab, we also support inflammation management with evidence-informed compounds including PEA (Palmitoylethanolamide).

PEA is:
• A naturally occurring compound produced by the body
• Known for its pain-modulating and anti-inflammatory support
• Studied for safety and effectiveness in multiple clinical trials
• Suitable to use alongside other therapies
• Available in compounded capsules, pessaries and topical creams

📦 PEA 400mg capsules (turmeric filler) — now available in-clinic.

If you’re navigating chronic inflammation, pain, or immune dysregulation, support doesn’t have to be one-dimensional.

Sometimes the most powerful shifts come from nutrition, targeted supplementation, and a personalised approach.

👉 Speak with our team to learn whether PEA or anti-inflammatory strategies may be appropriate for you.

Most women don’t “fail” HRT. They start it without understanding what’s happening underneath.

Hormones don’t correct dysfunction, they amplify it.
Blood sugar imbalances.
Inflammation.
Iron overload.
Thyroid dysfunction.

That’s why at Formulae Albion, we take a measured, data-first approach.

In collaboration with Mary Lou, Hormone Specialist, we focus on understanding the full picture before hormones are introduced so treatment is personalised, safer, and far more effective.

Test, don't guess.

January is Cervical Health Awareness Month 💙

Cervical cancer is one of the most preventable cancers, yet many people still miss regular screening.

Here’s what’s important to know 👇
• Cervical cancer is most often caused by HPV, a very common virus
• Most HPV infections clear on their own, but persistent high-risk types can lead to cervical cell changes over time
• HPV vaccination significantly reduces risk, but screening is still essential
• Australia now uses HPV testing, which is more accurate than the old Pap smear
• If your test is clear, screening is only needed every 5 years (ages 25–74)
• You may be eligible to self-collect your screening sample, making the process easier and more comfortable

If you’re unsure when your last screening was, or want to talk through HPV, vaccination, or screening options, booking a chat with your GP is a powerful first step.

Early detection saves lives and cervical screening has never been more accessible.

Did you know low estrogen can affect your rotator cuff tendons?

The rotator cuff has a high concentration of estrogen receptors, which help maintain tendon strength and tissue integrity.

When estrogen levels decline, particularly during perimenopause and menopause, this protective effect can reduce, making tendons more vulnerable to degeneration and micro-tears over time.

This may present as:
• Pain in the outer upper arm or top of the shoulder
• Discomfort with overhead movements or reaching behind your back
• Swelling or tenderness at the front of the shoulder
• Clicking with movement
• Reduced strength or range of motion

This is often referred to as Rotator Cuff Tendinopathy (RCT).

📊 Research suggests postmenopausal women with lower estrogen levels have a higher risk of RCT compared to those with balanced hormones.

Why this matters:
For many women, ongoing shoulder pain isn’t just mechanical or inflammatory, it can be hormonally influenced.

Which is why pain relief alone may not address the root cause.

At The Compounding Lab, we take a whole-body, hormone-aware approach- looking beyond the joint to understand what’s happening internally.

👉 If this resonates, our hormone specialist Mary Lou can talk you through whether hormones may be playing a role and what supportive options might look like for you.

When it comes to your health, testing is always better than guessing.

Too often, people load up on a cupboard full of vitamins, supplements, or medications without truly knowing what their body needs. While well-intentioned, this can:

✨ Mask underlying issues
✨ Lead to nutrient imbalances
✨ Waste time and money
✨ Delay the right treatment

Your body is unique, so your treatment should be too. At The Lab, we use testing to identify deficiencies and imbalances, then create tailored, compounded solutions designed specifically for you.

Stop guessing. Start testing. Book a consult today and take the guesswork out of your health.
