Ovarian hormones are almost completely suppressed by combined estrogen birth control methods like the pill, patch, or ring. Case in point: if you were to test for estradiol, progesterone, or testosterone, you would find almost none. Only estradiol rises slightly during the sugar pill week.

In place of real hormones are the medications ethinylestradiol and levonorgestrel (or other progestin), which are somewhat similar to real hormones but really quite different.
