Congratulations to the CardioVascular Clinics team at St Andrew’s who were recently named a TAVI Teaching Centre of Excellence, just seven years after the first Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation (TAVI) at St Andrew’s in 2015.

The Australian-first designation by Edwards Lifesciences signifies extensive TAVI experience, outcomes and the outstanding teaching contribution of interventional cardiologists, Dr Karl P**n and Dr Alexander Incani.

“It means that when patients come to us for a TAVI procedure they can expect the best result possible from one of the most experienced teams in Asia Pacific,” Dr P**n said.

The cutting-edge procedure provides patients with a superior alternative to open heart surgery for treatment of aortic stenosis, a condition which causes narrowing of the aortic valve and was recently estimated to affect close to 100,000 Australians.
