Liquid herbs have made their way back into the center of my treatment plans!
I drifted away from them for a while because of taste compliance, but the clinical results I’m seeing are consistently stronger. With the right support and a few simple strategies, most patients adapt really well, and the benefits are absolutely worth it.

Considering Japanese Knotweed is front and centre in this pic, let me tell you a little about it and when I am most likely to use it.

Japanese knotweed is one of my go-to herbs when chronic inflammation and pain are present. I often use it in female reproductive cases (especially endometriosis) when things feel stagnant and when the body needs movement and circulation. Even more so when chronic fatigue is part of the picture.

One study found resveratrol, a major polyphenol found in Japanese knotweed significantly reduced inflammatory cytokines and endometrial lesion growth.

How many serves of fruit do we really need each day?

2!!!
(3 gets you bonus points)

Fruit is the gut’s FAVOURITE food, if you’re not eating fruit and a variety of it, your gut ecosystem will not be happy.
Fruit is packed with fibre, polyphenols, and antioxidants that help nourish your gut microbiome. These compounds act as fuel for beneficial gut bacteria, supporting digestion, immune health, female repro and hormonal health, and overall wellbeing.

Keep your gut bugs happy and healthy to keep the rest of your body healthy.

What is 1 serve of fruit?
About 150g of fresh fruit (about the size of a tennis ball).

Examples of 1 serve:
1 medium apple, banana, orange or pear
2 small kiwifruit
1 cup of berries
1 cup of diced pineapple

Different fruits feed different microbes, so mix it up! Eat with the seasons, avoid what is listed on the dirty dozen or choose organic for those fruits, and frozen counts!
Your gut bugs will thank you

Constantly bloated? These are my go-to herbs to start with…

Ginger 🫚
A long-term favourite of mine and for good reason. Used for centuries in traditional medicine to ease nausea, bloating, and general digestive discomfort. Its active compounds support digestion, modulate gastrointestinal motility and have mild anti-inflammatory effects.

Iberis 🌿
Best known as a key component of the formula Iberogast. Its naturally bitter profile stimulates the body’s own secretion of digestive enzymes and supports motility, making it helpful for functional dyspepsia and sluggish digestion.

Parsley 🪴
Particularly useful for bloating associated with poor fat digestion. Parsley contains compounds that support bile flow, improving impaired fat digestion. I may also use this herb for hormone imbalances, especially low progesterone.

Angelica 🍁
A favourite of mine because it provides effective relief across a range of digestive symptoms, especially bloating, dyspepsia and to reduce bacterial overgrowth.

Peppermint 🍃
Hits quickly and acts strongly. Its antispasmodic properties help relax smooth muscle in the GI tract. Peppermint along with Ginger brings a little spicy component that can provide immediate relief.

Most of the time I am drop dosing with these herbs.
Drop dosing simply means taking herbal tinctures in tiny, drop-by-drop amounts, under the tongue or in your water bottle instead of full doses, offering a gentler and more finely tuned way to support the body. A tiny boost over strong medicinal doses.

These provide quick temporary relief however lets not forget the most important question; why are you so bloated in the first place? What is going on within your gut that is causing you to be so bloated?
A bacterial or fungal overgrowth? Poor digestion? Low microbial diversity? Gut inflammation?
It’s time to ask the bigger questions and investigate further.

* Not everyone will be suited to these specific herbs so subtle changes in formulas depending on your own presenting symptoms and health state are likely.

First day back in clinic for 2026!

2 weeks away was not long enough to do as much bush bashing as I would have liked but I am eager to be back.

The new year can make me feel a little anxious - I am a big reflector and I want to know my year has been meaningful.

Productivity has looked very different this past year. I spent more time outside and in doing so I had some truly unbelievable encounters with nature.

I have learnt that time in the bush counts more than ticking boxes.

Looking back, 2025 can only be described as magical. I’m so grateful that a word like that can even apply to my year. Especially when most of it unfolded so close to home.

Daily habits I am continuing and prioritising in 2026:
• 30-second cold showers - the dopamine will be flowing
• 5:15am wake-ups (I am working hard to get to 5am) 😅
• 15-mins of journaling
• Single ingredient foods, fruit is the best and easiest way to get this habit going.
• Reading 10 pages of a book - I am loving this and it is quickly becoming not enough.
• Prioritising quiet time first thing in the morning, above all else, this has made the biggest difference to my day.
• Lunch outside without distraction, I can’t stress the importance of being outside or in nature every day enough.
• Praying more than worrying
• Remembering to breath, the right way, I have to thank for this one!

Our habits are feeding our spirit and overtime we will see the fruit they bear.

Grateful to love what I do…Thank you 2025

Why I love liquid herbs!

3 words; Precise Individualised Prescribing.

Liquid herbs are absorbed quickly and can be blended specifically for what your body needs. Whether that’s calming the nervous system, supporting digestion, balancing hormones etc.

I prefer to use liquid herbs for more complex cases so I can be very fussy about each ingredient and the specific effect it will have.

What I have used liquid formulas for recently:
• E.coli overgrowth in the gut
• PMDD (premenstrual dysphoric disorder)
• SIBO (small intestinal bacterial overgrowth)
• Endometriosis (pain specifically)
• Drop dosing for digestion (focus on fat digestion - no gallbladder)

Yes there is one downside…taste. Although not all of them taste bad! The reason they are not in every treatment plan is taste and therefore compliance. But there are ways to manage this! Hold your nose, mix with pear juice (a surprisingly secret hero), and just be brave.

They are certainly worth a second thought if you have said no to herbs before.

Reminiscing on some of last week’s holiday moments.

This little beach trip bought so many dopamine downloads AKA very happy moments.

Nature is literally free medicine that rewires your brain for joy, focus, and resilience!

Getting outside should be a priority in everyone’s week.

Why are you so tired all the time? 😴☕️

If you came to me with low energy, here’s 6 things I’d dig into:

1. What’s on your plate? Are you crashing after meals? Unknown food intolerances OR poor fueling could be draining you. If you are reacting to or feeling low energy after eating certain foods, my next question would be ‘what is going on within your gut that is making you so reactive to certain foods?’

2. Nutrient deficiencies! When was the last time you had a blood test? Vitamins and minerals play key roles in energy production. Especially iron, vitamin B12 and vitamin D. Are you getting enough and are they being utilised by the body appropriately? Check with your practitioner that your levels are GOOD and not just “within range”.

3. Stressed to the max? Chronic stress pushes your body into overload, leaving you exhausted.

4. Always sick? Frequent illnesses could be a clue your body’s fighting something bigger. Perhaps a persistent viral infection that just keeps returning?

5. Are you sleeping well? And I mean, falling asleep easily, staying asleep and waking feeling refreshed?

6. Are your hormones happy? Hormone dysfunction can play a MAJOR role in energy production. Especially thyroid hormones, s*x hormones (such as oestrogen, progesterone and testosterone) and insulin, our lovely little blood sugar regulating hormone, that is so often forgotten about.

If fatigue has become your new normal, it’s worth exploring what’s really behind it - whether that’s hormones, nutrient gaps or gut issues.

Energy crash at 3pm? Do this before more coffee:

✅Walk around outside in the sun for 10-minutes.
✅Drink a cool glass of water with Magnesium and B vitamins, or electrolytes. Rely on simple supplementation to give your cells what they need to make energy.
✅Breath deeply for a minute (reduces stress & energises the brain).
✅Snack smart for blood sugar regulation with cinnamon protein balls, mixed nuts with some dark choc chips, liver pate as a savoury treat or a scoop of protein powder in a blender bottle.

This list could go on forever.

Step 2: consider why this keeps happening and what further investigations may be required!
