“For the last 13 weeks, I have been in a rehabilitation centre… and what a journey it has been.”

One of our clients recently shared their experience at Shanty Creek Residential Treatment Service, reminding us that taking the first step can become the turning point in your life. 💚

“… I hit rock bottom; I was lost and confused about a lot of things. I was in a very dark place, so I took the first step to get help.”

Taking that step wasn’t easy.
“At first, I did not want to do it; I was nervous and did not know what to expect.”

But that decision changed everything.
“It has changed my whole life, and I have a whole new outlook on life now.”

They also shared a message for others who may be struggling:
“Change is possible; you just have to put in the hard work and you will get there, and be honest with yourself.”

Recovery is possible. We’re here to walk the journey with you. 💙

Today marks the 18th Anniversary of the National Apology to the Stolen Generations.

It was a significant milestone for healing for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, who suffered as a result of past government policies.

On this day, we remember and reflect on our shared history and the trauma experienced by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, particularly members of the Stolen Generations.

If today brings up difficult feelings for you or someone in your mob, help is available. Call 13 YARN on 13 92 76 (available 24/7).

“I knew I needed help… I called Wyla in Orange. I was contacted straight back.”

Walking into Wyla was a turning point.

“I was met out the front and I felt at home straight away… the staff were kind and the other clients lovely.”

It was the people who made the difference.
“The staff were not just there to get paid… they wanted to be there.”

She remembers a moment where fear crept in before going home:
“One of the staff pulled me aside… we talked for 40 mins and I came out so glad she picked up on it.”

And her case worker:
“The most kindest and caring man… he would take me aside, work out what was wrong, and I would walk away happy.”

She left with tools, confidence and a new purpose:
“I now know I have what it takes to help other people… I know my journey was for a reason.”

Today, she’s working toward her Cert III in Community Services, ready to support others on their path to recovery.

This is the power of safe spaces, compassionate staff and community.

January 26 is a day that means different things to different people. For some, it’s Australia Day - a time to celebrate.

For others, it’s Survival Day - a day of mourning and time to reflect on the resilience of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and the ongoing impact of colonisation.

At Lives Lived Well, we recognise that this day may hold different meanings for our clients and employees. That’s why our employees can choose to work on this day and take the public holiday at another time that better suits them.

This is the story of an empowered woman and mother of five, a story of strength and recovery.

“I am their rock, sanctuary in a hard world and safe place. I didn't always feel this… when I was tangled up from my own childhood traumas and self-medicated.”

At her lowest, she made the bravest choice a mother can make:
“I put them to higher ground under my sister's eventual care, when I was too unwell.”

What followed was a turning point, a decision to fight for her wellbeing and for her family’s future.

The client reached out to our Dianella Cottage recovery centre, and after a short time living in the facility, something had changed.

“I came to the realisation that ‘I MATTER’.”

With safe housing, community support, and deep personal courage, she began rebuilding her life.

Dianella became part of that journey.

“I did which made me feel safer to share my struggles, accomplishments and doubts and openness for genuine feedback as a willing client at Dianella.”

And today?
“Today my eldest son and younger children are in closer, and more in contact with me.

“I've returned to them as a well Mum and pillar of strength I am becoming.”
