With a vision to create something meaningful for young mob, Paige, our Diverse Community Coordinator, dreamed big and made it happen.

Securing two grants and bringing together local partners, businesses and the City of Gold Coast, Connecting on Concrete is set to be a flagship event for QLD Youth Week this April.

In partnership with Songline, a collective of First Nations skateboarders connected through culture and Country, the event will feature:
🛹 Skate demos and workshops
🎨 Skateboard art sessions
🎮 Games, prizes and activities
💈 Free haircuts for young men

While the event was created with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people in mind, everyone is welcome to come along and be part of the day.

We’re proud to support initiatives that bring community together and create spaces where young people feel seen, heard and connected. 🔵🟢

Big shout out to Paige!

“Dianella has been a life changer for me.”

From feeling ashamed to finding comfort after connecting with the Dianella service, this client is gradually learning to manage their dependence on alcohol and rebuild acceptance of themselves. 💙💚

They spoke about struggling with depression and using alcohol to cope with the pain, until things eventually reached a point where they needed support and entered detox. Asking for help for the first time was not easy.

“I’ve never asked for help before… I was reluctant, scared and a bit ashamed.”

But their experience with Dianella quickly changed that.

“My case worker was so lovely, kind and understanding. I didn’t feel shame or anxious about talking to her.”

Through ongoing support and regular catch-ups, they began to feel more hopeful about managing life’s challenges.

“Even if I’m having a bad day she makes me feel normal and that it’s ok. That things can be managed if you break it down into smaller parts.”

Thank you to our Dianella team for helping people understand that recovery looks different for everyone and no one has to do it alone. 💙💚

✅ Share inclusive spaces – support trans-friendly businesses, healthcare, and community services.
✅ Show visible support – wear a pronoun badge on your lapel or lanyard.

Every action counts! Let’s celebrate and stand with our trans community today and every day.

Celebrating the people who make recovery possible. 💚

At Carinya House, Jess is known not just for the role she holds, but for the way she shows up and supports people every day.

One of our residents shared:

“There were days I wanted to give up. Days recovery felt too hard. But Jess would sit across from me and say, “Look how far you’ve come.””

Jess supports residents with hope and belief, something many people need most during their darkest moments.

“She believes in us sometimes before we believe in ourselves.”

And that sense of hope and dedication has helped change someone’s life.

“Because of her support the mentoring, the guidance, the consistency I’ve grown.

I’ve made progress in my recovery.

I’ve started setting goals again.”

Thank you, Jess, for the care and encouragement you bring to our community every day. 💙💚
