Becoming a Naturopath has been my life long passion as I love what I do and there is nothing better than seeing clients get the results they have been searching for. I have always loved working with people and through Naturopathy I am able to assist you by supporting you to make the necessary changes for optimum health and to achieve a healthy work life balance.
Naturopathy incorporates both herbal medicine, nutritional medicine along with a lot of listening to you in regards to what is going on in your life. I do ask a lot of questions so that I can really get to the bottom of what is actually going on with your health. Naturopathy works in synergy with both Western Medicine and other Natural Medicine Modalities. This allows me to create a Personalised Treatment Plan to assist you with your own healing journey.
I graduated with a BHSc (Naturopathy) degree in 2013 from Endeavour College in Brisbane and opened my clinic in Moggill in 2014.
Naturopathy and Nutrition are constantly changing due to more scientific research within the natural health world. Naturopathy incorporates both herbal medicine (liquid or capsule form), nutrition and dietary plans, easy to incorporate lifestyle changes and may also include functional testing. Adding Naturopathy into your life will have you feeling vibrant, full of energy, sleeping better and healthy once again – Repair, Re-balance, Restore!
I am a mother of 3 daughters who are now in their early 20s. I have been married for 26 years and have 3 little fur babies who love to come and meet my clients. I also work in Aged Care as a Personal Care Worker. I have worked with people who have Dementia for over 9 years. Unfortunately I am not able to be a Naturopath whilst working there but it has certainly taught me a lot about the importance of healthy ageing. I have almost completed my Masters of Health Administration which has given me a much better understanding of the Australian Health System along with Aged Care practices.
Back to being a Naturopath now and digestive health has always been high on my list of priorities as I have suffered on and off with SIBO (small intestinal bacterial overgrowth) and digestive health issues for most of my life (as a baby I suffered dreadfully from colic.) This eventually caused me to have a leaky gut, then SIBO along with candida.
I can now say that I’ve finally healed my SIBO as my symptoms have gone such as my bloating, I can eat out now without having to search for the bathroom (just in case I’ve eaten something that will upset my stomach!) My peri-menopause symptoms have basically gone as well.
As a Naturopath Mum, children’s health has always been a priority for me as I love working with children and I love to cook! I’m happy to say that my daughters are really great cooks. ‘Food is Medicine’ is where I usually start with children. Children can be extremely fussy eaters, along with having digestive problems, anxiety, burnout, sleep issues, night terrors, food allergies, eczema, acne, brain fog, respiratory conditions such as reoccurring colds, earaches or asthma. I also stock child friendly products that I use in conjunction with dietary changes.
Stress, burnout or exhaustion affects our wellness and wellbeing. I treat both men and women who have work related burnout, especially if you are running your own business. I felt the effects of burnout whilst studying, working part-time and having a busy family. I can totally relate to ‘running on empty’ and ‘I’ll sleep when I’m Dead’ as I have so much to do and not enough time to do it!
So how does work related burnout happen?
Work related burnout is a type of work-related stress – it is a state of physical or emotional exhaustion. Burnout has finally been recognized as a medical condition by the World Health Organisation. Burnout is more than just being stressed as it evolves after your body has been ‘functioning’ with chronic stress over a very long period of time. This can be work related or personal or a combination of both and burnout can present as anxiety, depression or adrenal dysfunction.
I like to incorporate herbal medicine, nutrition and flower essences along with life style changes into your personalised treatment.
Katrina has a special interest in women’s health especially Peri-menopause and Menopause - Hormones are fluctuating, metabolism is slowing down along with a host of other symptoms of Peri-menopause, for example, hot flushes, insomnia, brain fog, urinary frequency, vaginal dryness, loss of libido or heavy or irregular periods. These changes can be referred to as the ‘Second Puberty’ or a friend said to me the other day - its ageing organs. I like the ‘Second Puberty’ concept much better! Menopause is when you do not had any menstrual bleeding for 12 months. Cardiovascular Health is so important to be aware of especially once you become Peri-Menopausal.
Women’s Health covers such a vast area - I see many women in clinic who have hormonal imbalances which leads to period issues, PCOS, thyroid conditions, weight gain or weight loss; post birth control syndrome; autoimmune diseases which are becoming more and more common, such as Diabetes type 2, rheumatoid arthritis, thyroid diseases (Hashimoto’s and Graves), Raynaud’s disease; cardiovascular health; re-occurring urinary tract infections, kidney and bladder issues and so much more.
Thyroid Health is another area that I enjoy treating as I was diagnosed with Hyperthyroidism whilst pregnant with my third daughter (she was born without any thyroid issues or potential side-effects!) My Mother had nodules on her thyroid and had Graves Disease and my Grandmother (paternal) who had her thyroid taken out (many years ago.) There is definitely a genetic history here in both sides of my family! So I totally understand the saying that ‘I haven’t felt right since …..’ Repair, Re-balance, Restore as these three words are essential to your healing journey.
