The Australian public’s acceptance of the live export industry has grown substantially over a series of national surveys conducted since 2019 📈🐄

Data science company Voconiq has collected the most comprehensive and consistent view of Australian attitudes toward the livestock export industry over this time, funded by the research bodies for livestock exporters and producers, LiveCorp and Meat & Livestock Australia.

Voconiq CEO Kieren Moffat says it’s clear that the industry’s contribution to farmers, regional economies, and international markets resonates with the public.

The Regional Investment Corporation (RIC) has introduced a Drought Hardship Loan to assist farmers with short-term financial relief in long-term drought, and a Marine Algal Bloom and Heatwave Loan which will assist South Australian wild-catch fishers and aquaculture operators affected by the recent algal bloom.

An additional new loan for improving climate resilience, boosting sector productivity, and supporting agriculture to be part of Australia’s net zero transition is coming in the second half of 2026.

🐑 From “sheep cockie” to shaking hands with Prime Ministers 🇦🇺

Not many people can say they’ve been called “sheep” by three Prime Ministers - and take it as a compliment - but AgForce General President Shane McCarthy can.

In a great profile by the North Queensland Register, Shane reflects on his journey as a fifth-generation producer and a long-time advocate for northern Australia.

It’s a reminder that strong regional voices matter.

- Media statement -

AgForce Queensland Farmers extends its deepest sympathies to the victims of the Bondi Beach terror attack, their families, and all members of the community affected by this tragic and confronting act of violence.

Our thoughts are with those who have lost loved ones, those who were injured, and the emergency services personnel who responded under extraordinarily distressing circumstances.

This was an act of extremist violence directed at Australian society. It must be recognised as criminal behaviour that bears no connection to the lawful, responsible, and highly regulated use of fi****ms by primary producers or other legitimate licence holders.

For Queensland farmers, fi****ms are essential tools of trade used solely for agricultural purposes such as pest animal control and the humane treatment of livestock. Their use is governed by rigorous licensing, training, storage, and compliance requirements, which are already among the most stringent in the world.

AgForce supports evidence-based measures that genuinely improve public safety. Any policy response must remain focused on preventing violent criminal acts, rather than imposing additional burdens on responsible, law-abiding Australians who rely on fi****ms for their livelihoods, particularly in regional and rural communities.

AgForce will continue to advocate respectfully and constructively on behalf of its members to ensure their voices are heard during any public discussion following this deeply distressing event.

🌱 AgForce Cane delivered strong outcomes for producers in 2025, securing disaster recovery and replanting funding, advancing cane feedstock, bioenergy and renewable fuel pathways, and strengthening water security through regional basin planning, unallocated water releases, and progress on the Burdekin Regional Water Assessment and rising groundwater issues. 💧⚡

📈 We promoted Ratoon Stunting Disease test kits, competition in cane markets and farm data protections, while advocating against unreasonable environmental rules and impractical Reef regulation. 🌊🚜

🎄 On behalf of the AgForce Cane Board, team and AgForce family, we thank you for your support and wish farming families a safe, restful Christmas season, and a profitable year ahead.
