🚜 AgForce welcomes the official start of construction on the first project under the $500 million Queensland Beef Corridors Program

This is a major win for Central Queensland producers and the broader beef supply chain. Years of collaboration between local councils, industry, and the Queensland Beef Corridors group have delivered a long-term strategy to seal and upgrade the freight routes our industry depends on.

The $47.5 million early works package begins with sealing a priority section of the Clermont–Alpha Road, with upgrades also planned for:
• Alpha–Tambo Road
• Fitzroy Developmental Road
• May Downs Road

These are high-traffic cattle routes that have carried the cost of poor conditions for far too long.

AgForce Cattle strongly supports this program and acknowledges the joint commitment from the Australian Government ($400M) and Queensland Government ($100M). Improving these corridors will:
✅ Strengthen supply chains
✅ Reduce transport delays
✅ Improve safety
✅ Build long-term industry resilience

Producers in Central Queensland move more than $1.7 billion in freight each year 🚚

Better roads mean better efficiency, fewer lost hours, and safer conditions for truck drivers, station teams, and regional communities.

This is a welcome start to a 10-year plan that will deliver real, practical gains for the beef industry.

Today, AgForce presented shoulder-to-shoulder with National Farmers' Federation at the Australian Senate's Environment and Communications Legislation Committee Public Hearing.

We critiqued the Australian Government's rushed processes in aiming to pass legislative amendments to the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 by the end of 2025, amendments that have the potential to threaten Queensland's Property Maps of Assessable Vegetation (PMAV) system. We also strongly emphasised the need for the Government to include Australian agriculture as a core partner in all future development and implementation of this legislative reform package.

AgForce is the leading voice for Qld producers and will always advocate for reducing red tape, duplication and administrative burdens affecting Queensland's food and fibre producers 🐮 🐄 🐐 🌾

Locusts and grasshoppers share a simple three-stage life cycle: egg ➡️ hopper (nymph) ➡️ adult.

Here’s how it works:
🌾 Eggs: Locusts lay batches of eggs (‘egg pods’) in soil, up to 100mm deep, sealed with a froth plug. In some areas, these egg pods cluster together in ‘egg beds,’ with up to 1,000 pods per square metre! Eggs need warmth and moisture to incubate, hatching in 2–3 weeks under ideal conditions but can remain viable in soil for up to 12 months.
🌾 Hoppers (Nymphs): Newly hatched locusts are small, flightless, and sexually immature. They progress through several growth stages (called ‘instars’) before maturing.
🌾 Adults: Fully grown locusts are capable of flight and reproduction, making early control during the nymph stage critical to breaking their life cycle.

🚨 It is important to control and manage locusts in the nymphs stage before they grow wings and fly.

✅ Early and proactive detection and control can protect pastures and crops from localised damage and potential locust swarms!
