THIS IS A REMINDER TO HAVE YOUR ANNUAL MAMMOGRAM!

Why do I need a mammogram?
Mammograms can often show a breast lump before it can be felt. They also can show tiny clusters of calcium called micro-calcifications. Lumps or specks can be caused by cancer, fatty cells, or other conditions like cysts. Further tests are needed to find out if abnormal cells are present.

What age do I need to start having mammograms?
Women 40 and older should have mammograms every year. Women under 40 who have risk factors for breast cancer, such as a significant family history of breast cancer or a genetic mutation, should ask their healthcare provider whether mammograms are advisable and how often to have them.

Even women who have no symptoms and no known risks for breast cancer should have regularly scheduled mammograms to help detect potential breast cancer at the earliest possible time.

What are the signs and symptoms of breast cancer?

Every person should know the signs and symptoms of breast cancer, and any time an abnormality is discovered, it should be investigated by a healthcare professional.

Most people who have breast cancer signs and symptoms will initially notice only one or two, and the presence of these signs and symptoms do not automatically mean that you have breast cancer.

By performing monthly breast self-exams, you will be able to more easily identify any changes in your breasts. Be sure to talk to your healthcare professional if you notice anything unusual.

Signs and symptoms to look out for -

1. A change in how the breast or ni**le looks or feels
2. A change in the breast or ni**le appearance
3. Any ni**le discharge

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

This year it's extra close to our hearts so over the month of October we will be sharing information about detection, risks, breast checks and education.

As one of the most common cancers among women worldwide according to the World Health Organization. Every year over 21,000 people in Australia (including around 200 men) will be diagnosed with breast cancer. Every day 58 people in Australia will be diagnosed with breast cancer.

Can we please encourage that everyone undergoes breast checks regularly and if you are concerned please see your Doctor.
