Families don’t often get to “go away” together in aged care.
This week in Coraki, they did. 🚂

One of our Olive Express immersive rooms is on a tour of northern NSW, and we’ve set up at BaptistCare Coraki for the week.

Residents, families and staff have been coming on board, sharing a “train journey” together and then spilling back out onto the lawn still talking about what they saw.

This is what Olive Express is all about – breaking the routine, creating something to look forward to, and giving families a reason to stay a little longer.

She was waving to the people in the cars outside the train window.” 🤩

That was the feedback from a recent Olive Express journey at St Vincent’s Care, Mitchelton – a beautiful, historic building in Brisbane.

During our Japan trip, there:

One resident said the snowy scenes “brought back lots of memories” of family, Christmas and skiing.

Another was so immersed she started waving to people “outside” the train.

Others were simply happy to sit, watch and feel like they’d been somewhere different for a while.

The lifestyle team’s summary:

“Residents had a great experience and enjoyed it… Looking forward to taking more people next time.”

No buses are leaving the car park. Just an immersive room, gentle motion, sound and scent – and a real break in the routine.

I’m excited to share that I’ll be speaking at

We will dive into something I care about profoundly: how immersive environments can change the way aged care feels for residents, families, and care teams. Our work with the University of Queensland showed measurable improvements in mood, social interaction, and connection. Seeing residents light up and families stay longer is what keeps us building.
It’s an honour to present to a room full of people who shape the daily experience in aged care. If you’re attending the conference, I’d love to meet you and show you what we’ve been working on.

We went out to Dolby recently and met Edna, who’s 😍 100 😍 years young. Not only did she ride the Olive Express once, but Edna also came back for a second journey! 🚂💛

After her first trip, Edna kept asking the staff when we’d be back. That kind of curiosity and joy is what Olive Express is all about. Big thanks to Edna for reminding us that age is no barrier to wonder.

🚀 New Era Begins in Aged Care 🚂
We’re incredibly proud to announce a significant partnership between Olive Express and St Vincent's Health Australia’s Care Services 🚀 Launching the first permanent Immersive Reality Room in an aged care community in Australia.
Together, with the The University of Queensland, we’ve transformed the idea of travel for residents into something accessible every day. At St Vincent’s Toowoomba, residents and families can now explore the world 🚂 by train, Sea and air anytime they choose.
This isn’t just innovation for the sake of it. It’s evidence-based care that improves cognition, mood, and social connection, while helping providers meet the new 2025 Aged Care Standards.
🏠 Community home Care residents 🏠 can participate in a joint residential community partnership.
No boundaries. Just horizons.

Just back from ✈️ Beijing and Guangzhou 🛫 , exploring how China is using technology and innovation to support its aging population. 😍

With so many younger family members now overseas, it was inspiring to see how communities are finding new ways to keep older people connected and cared for.

An amazing country and a great adventure. I’d recommend it to anyone. We’ve brought home some fresh ideas that will shape the next chapter of Olive Express.

Thanks to everyone who continues to support our ❤️ social enterprise ❤️ and the mission to make aged care more connected, joyful, and fun.

Olive Express has rolled into BlueCare Caloundra for the week!

For the next seven days, residents and their families can hop on board, travel to a different part of the world, and spark meaningful conversations along the way.

BlueCare was the organisation that first inspired my passion for this industry, so it’s always special when we visit their communities.

Grateful to be back sharing these journeys and seeing the smiles that remind us why we do what we do.

These moments of connection and memory remind us why we created this experience: to bring joy, dignity, and comfort to all.

We often say Olive Express is for residents, but it is part of the Lutheran Homes Group at Tabeel Aged Care.Natalija Pearn

We saw how much it lifts the whole community 🚂

For seven days, we shared journeys with residents and staff. The joy the staff felt in being able to care in a different way. No routine. Just smiles, shared stories, and a calming space where connections felt natural.

UQ research backs this up as well; staff told us the sessions felt like a break with the people they care for, not from them.

We had the pleasure of visiting Villa Maria Eastern Heights and Catholic Healthcare this week.

Residential 🥰 Manager Shannon Gooley shared what stood out:

🚂 “Residents just loved the ability to talk to each other about their experiences… it opened up the ability to share their life moments with each other.”

🚂 “This would absolutely benefit residents in terms of supporting their psychosocial, emotional and spiritual wellbeing, not only for themselves, but by connecting with others in their community.”

“Can I come in with mum?”

That’s what Melanie said as she stepped into the Olive Express with her mum.

We designed 🚂 so that families could join the journey right there inside the train and enjoy high tea 🧁

And it turns out that simple inclusion means everything. It strengthens bonds with families, creates shared memories, and lifts satisfaction scores across the board.

It’s not just the residents who benefit. When families feel seen and involved, trust in your home grows.
