A reminder that I'm running a free online session in March on arthritic knees.

We'll cover three things your GP doesn't have time to tell you —
including why pain doesn't always mean damage, why rest isn't always the answer, and what the evidence says actually helps.

Free. Online. About an hour.

Drop "webinar" in the comments if you'd like the details.

Rest your arthritic knee. It makes sense, right?

But what if that well-meaning advice is actually making things worse?

Here's how the cycle goes:

Knee hurts → you rest it → you start moving again → it hurts because it's not used to it → you stop again.

And round it goes.

The thing is, pain doesn't necessarily mean damage.
It can simply be your body's way of saying "I'm out of practice with this."

That's a very different problem — with a very different solution.

I run small, regular education sessions on arthritic knees if you'd like to understand what your pain is actually telling you. Details in the link below. 👇

Friday's question was about whether anyone had explained what's actually happening in your arthritic knee.

Most people haven't had that conversation — not because anyone
failed them, but because appointments are short.

Understanding your pain changes everything. It reduces fear and makes movement feel less risky.

Has that been your experience?

If you have knee arthritis, has anyone ever properly explained to you what's actually happening in the knee?

🔲 Yes — and it helped
🔲 Yes — but it was confusing
🔲 Not really
🔲 No, never

Curious to know - share your thoughts below. I'll share my thoughts Monday.

A lot of people with arthritic knees are taking pain relief regularly without ever having had a conversation about whether it's the right option for them long-term.

If that's you, it's worth a chat with a pharmacist — not just your GP. They can look at what you're taking, flag any interactions, and often suggest alternatives you might not have considered.

The team at Manly Village Compounding Pharmacy are great
for exactly this kind of conversation.

If you've been watching any of our videos on arthritic knees and thinking "this makes sense, but I'm not sure how it applies to my knee" — that's exactly what a one-to-one appointment is for.

Online or in person at Manly (QLD).

If your arthritic knee is painful, it's tempting to think:
"I just need a scan."

But an MRI might not tell you what you're hoping for.

Scans show structural changes — but those changes are
often just wrinkles on the inside. And crucially, they don't always link to your pain or symptoms.

They also won't show whether you're not sleeping well, or whether you're stressed. Both of which can be a massive driver of knee pain.

A scan is one piece of the puzzle. Sometimes useful.
Often not the most important piece when it comes to
getting you moving again.

I run small, regular education sessions on arthritic
knees if you'd like to understand the full picture.

Friday's question was about your first instinct when your arthritic knee flares up.

Here's my take: gentle movement usually beats complete rest.

Not pushing through. Just keeping things moving gently so the joint stays mobile.

Does that match your experience?

A question if you're managing knee arthritis:

When your knee flares up, what's your first instinct?

🔲 Rest it completely
🔲 Keep moving gently
🔲 Pain relief
🔲 Panic and Google it (or use Chatty G?!)

No wrong answers — I'll share my thoughts on Monday.

One thing I hear a lot from people managing arthritic knees is that they're not sure what's actually worth trying — supplements, creams, pain relief.

The team at Manly Village Compounding Pharmacy are a brilliant first port of call for questions like this.

They're knowledgeable, approachable, and suggest what's right for you.

Worth knowing they're there.

Confirming this is happening — free online session in March on arthritic knees.

We'll cover the stuff that doesn't make it into a standard GP appointment (as they don't have much time) — why pain doesn't always mean damage, what rest actually does to an arthritic
knee, and what the evidence says really helps.

Free. Online. About an hour.

If you'd like the details when they're confirmed, drop "webinar" in the comments or send me a message.

Most people think of their arthritic knee like a rusty hinge.

Worn down. Grinding. Eventually seizing up.

But here's the thing — you're not made of metal.

Your knee is living tissue. Your cartilage actually
relies on you moving it to get the nutrients it needs.

That squeeze and release from simply walking? That's what
keeps your knee healthy.

Walking isn't wear and tear. It's how your cartilage
stays hydrated and nourished.

If you'd like to understand your knee better, I run small,
regular education sessions on arthritic knees. Details in
