The Food Pyramid Has Changed (and honestly… it’s about time)

The 2025–2030 U.S. Dietary Guidelines have introduced a new food pyramid — and it looks very different from what many of us grew up with.

Here’s what’s shifted 👇

✨ Protein is now front and centre
The new guidelines recommend higher protein intake — around 1.2–1.6 g per kg body weight — to support muscle, metabolism, hormones, blood sugar and satiety.
Think: meat, poultry, fish, dairy and plant proteins.

🥦 Whole foods over everything
Vegetables, fruits, healthy fats (like olive oil) and minimally processed foods form the foundation.
Less packaging. More nourishment.

🧈 Full-fat dairy is back
Up to 3 serves per day are encouraged for those who tolerate it — recognising its role in satiety, nutrient absorption and metabolic health.

🌾 Whole grains are no longer the hero
A big shift here — grains are no longer emphasised as a dietary staple and are suggested in smaller amounts, particularly if blood sugar, gut health or inflammation are concerns.

🚫 Ultra-processed foods = the real problem
The strongest message of all:
➡️ Reduce foods high in added sugars, refined oils and sodium
➡️ Prioritise home-prepared, nutrient-dense meals

💧 Hydration matters
Water and unsweetened drinks are encouraged, with a more flexible approach to moderate alcohol intake.

What I love about this shift, is it finally aligns with what we see clinically — better energy, better hormones, better blood sugar and better long-term health when people eat real food and enough protein.

As we wrap up the year, I want to say a heartfelt thank you to all my wonderful clients, friends, and community 🤍
It’s been an honour supporting your health journey this year.

As we step into the New Year, I’m feeling incredibly excited about what’s ahead ✨
I’m evolving the way I support you, with a deeper focus on functional testing - giving us the opportunity to truly understand what’s happening beneath the surface. This includes looking at hormones, gut health, nutrient status, metabolism, and detox pathways, so your care can be more personalised, targeted, and effective.
