OT Café Diaries 📍 Sabor

This one’s for the filos!

🍽 Food: 5/5
So many amazing options, including tempting lunch specials, but I went for one of their burgers. Look at the size! Properly filling and very satisfying.

🥤 Drink: 4.5/5
Ube latte, because obviously. Smooth, comforting, and something a bit different to break up the workday. They also do protein milkshakes, the blueberry Biscoff is high on my next-to-try list.

🌿 Environment: 5/5
Quiet, relaxed, with both indoor and outdoor seating, easy in any weather. I could genuinely see myself setting up here to write a report without feeling rushed.

✨ Bonus points:
Has a toilet (always worth mentioning) and a really welcoming, low-key vibe.

🚗 Parking note:
Limited on-site parking, but street parking is available nearby.

⭐️ Overall: 4.7/5
Save this OT-friendly spot if you want a calm lunch stop that actually lets your nervous system settle.

OT Café Diaries 📍 Andonis Cafè & Bar Pallara

This one’s ideal when you’ve ended up needing breakfast for lunch (why did you miss breakfast??) 👀

🍽 Food: 5/5
The mushroom benny was generous & filling. Perfect if you’re running on empty between appointments.

🥤 Drink: 5/5
Watermelon juice on a warm day. Refreshing, not too sweet, and exactly what you want mid-shift.

🌿 Environment: 5/5
Plenty of indoor and outdoor seating, relaxed, and easy to actually sit and reset.

✨ Bonus points:
Heaps of parking, a treats cabinet for something to take on the road, extremely lovely staff!
Shoutout to Amin’s Butcher & Grill. next door, makes for an easy dinner stop.

New spot, and honestly my favourite Andonis I’ve been to so far.

⭐️ Overall: 5/5
Very mobile OT–friendly and well worth adding to your rotation.

Save this one if you’re working around Pallara.

I jumped on the caricature trend and this is what my OT brain looks like 🧠

Thinking about function, equipment, funding, and how it all fits into real life.

If this resonates with how your OT brain works, take it as a sign.

Strive to Thrive Therapy isn’t about fitting a mold. It’s about working in a way that aligns with how you think and practice.

Does this look like you?

Finish the sentence:
“Because of my work, this person can now ___.”

What's one win you had this week?

Wins don't always need to be big, grand or cost a lot of money, they can be as small as putting something in place to help them put their shoes on.

Remember to take note of the small moments too. It helps keep your cup full. ☕️

OT Café Diaries 📍The Cafe Kalina - Springfield

This one ticks the breakfast, brunch and lunch box, which already makes it a win for a workday stop.

🍽 Food
We tried the café benedict, bubble and squeak, and avocado smash. All flavourful and the kind of meals you actually enjoy rather than rush through.

☕ Coffee
Iced latte on this visit. Solid, reliable, does the job between appointments.

🌿 Environment
Quiet, shaded seating, and calm enough to reset your brain mid-day.

✨ Bonus points
Plenty of parking, both on-site and on the street, which matters more than most cafés realise.

If you’re working around Springfield and need a low-stress, OT-friendly spot, this one’s easy to save.

Support works best when it’s specific, early, and safe to talk about. 💬

Most OTs told me they don’t feel fully supported.

You’re doing the work, solving problems, and trying to do right by your clients, but you don’t always feel held by your team or leaders.

That matters more than we admit.

Not because you’re doing a bad job, but because unclear support quietly adds weight.

On this café review, we were joined by SC Ben from NavigateSC!

🍜 Food: 5/5
Both stir-fries were generous, full of flavour, and genuinely satisfying. So good, I’d come back to outside of work.

☕️ Coffee: N/A this visit
No coffee today, but they’ve got a solid range of Asian-style drinks I’m keen to try next time.

🌿 Environment: 5/5
Indoor seating with air-con, calm enough for a proper conversation, and comfortable on hot or cooler days.

✨ Bonus points:
$15.90 lunch special, plenty of parking, and easy access between appointments.

⭐️ Overall: 5/5
A reliable, generous spot that works just as well for SC meetings as it does for a solo midday reset.

If you’re a mobile OT around Tingalpa, this one’s worth saving.

I asked one question in last week’s Strive Notes Newsletter:
“What’s one thing that would make your week feel more sustainable?”

Her answer was simple.
She books assessments slightly longer to build in buffer time.
No overhaul. No productivity hack. Just space to think, reset, and not run late all day.

If your weeks feel tight and rushed, this is an easy one to trial.

If you value grounded OT reflections like this, Strive Notes goes out weekly.
It’s short, practical, and shaped by real feedback from OTs across the profession.

Thank you to the OT for sharing. I genuinely appreciate hearing what’s helping, what’s not, and how we can build better OT practice and teaching communities together.

Better feedback starts with clarity.

Try this today 👇
Pick one thing you want clearer feedback on.
Ask a simple question:
“What’s one thing I can do to tighten this next time?”
Small questions open real guidance. 🛣️

Most OTs told us they get some guidance, but not always the kind that helps them fine-tune their practice.

That doesn’t mean you’re not learning. It just means the last part of your feedback loop, the part where you adjust, could use a bit more clarity.

If you want a clearer read on where you’re strong and where you want more support, The OT Career Check can help you see it.

This reply stuck with me.

It came in after our last newsletter, where I shared an article on what a healthy OT caseload actually looks like and asked one simple question:
“What’s one thing that would make your week feel more sustainable?”

She named the tension so many of us sit in, KPIs, travel, energy, and the reality that we don’t show up the same every day. One small thing she does is book assessments slightly longer to allow buffer time.

That’s the conversation the article is trying to open. Not the perfect caseload, but what sustainability actually looks like in real OT work. ✅
