This is something not worth celebrating.
I get it, I really do.
But…
It’s the biggest mistake you can make for both your health, and the planet.
And it’s lining the pockets of the already rich.
For many younger patients, it’s about making a stance and I understand that.
They feel disenfranchised and traumatised and unheard.
I equate going vegan to marching against the Vietnam war in the ‘60 (that I think had a positive outcome unlike veganism).
I think it’s both tragic and ironic that hands-down the most nutritious food we can eat today is the most demonised.
Red meat (and animal products like eggs, seafood, organ meat and chicken/turkey).
How did the diet dinosaurs get this 180 degrees wrong?
Religion and poor science.
Seventh-day Adventists or Mormons basically formed the first dietetics association in the US and the aussies based the Dietitians Association of Australia on this.
Hello Sanitarium and Kelloggs (multi-billion dollar quasi-religious groups) that pushed cereal and a plant-based diet and demonised red meat.
And scientists from the mid-1940’s to 60’s thought what was causing heart attacks and heart disease was fat/red meat.
It was in fact ci******es (everyone smoked back then) and the rising tide of soft drink, snacks, cereal and carbohydrates) that exploded post-WW2.
For the record?
I’m an agnostic omnivore.
And seriously?
Ask your health practitioner if they are vegan/vegetarian or if their diet beliefs are skewing the diet advice they are giving you.
You would be floored by how many vegan/vegetarian there are, and how many vegan researchers there are publishing biased papers without disclosing a religious or dietary belief!
Another tragedy are that humans, especially women and kids need MORE not less red meat in their diet.
It is and will always be the only superfood we have (along with organ meat, eggs and seafood).
A vegan and vegetarian diet is deficient in multiple minerals, vitamins, amino acids, and fatty acids.
As for climate change?
All cause greenhouse gases from ALL agriculture is 15%.
The other 85% is from transport, construction, oil and gas and waste.
So if you want to save the planet?
Ditch those new clothes, new phone, car, next cruise or flight.
And start catching a bus or train.
