Feet dangling = body tense.

Body tense = harder to fully empty.

Constipation affects up to 1 in 3 children and it doesn’t always look the way you expect.

It’s not just “not pooing.”

Skid marks, frequent small poos, withholding, very large poos or even liquid accidents can all be signs.

And it rarely resolves on its own.

If you’re unsure what’s normal — or what to do next — we’ve broken it down clearly for you.

When children feel rushed, embarrassed or stressed, their bodies can tense up — which actually makes it harder to wee or poo.

💡 Try this instead:
• Keep routines predictable
• Stay calm and neutral with accidents
• Focus on encouragement, not urgency

Confidence grows faster than control.

💙 Supporting independence, one small step at a time.

We poo and wee when our body needs to empty waste. But these internal urges may be perceived as demands, and may be difficult for our neurodivergent clients with PDA. Anxiety and the stress of this messy issue can complicate the road to independence.
