Let’s talk about something most people avoid, but everyone experiences: p**p. It’s one of the most honest reflections of what’s going on inside the body, and yet, we’re often too embarrassed to acknowledge it, let alone study it. But at Bottoms Up Colonics, we believe your bowel movements hold some of the most important clues to your health.
A healthy bowel movement should be soft, formed, and passed with ease, ideally leaving you with a sense of complete elimination. Think smooth, sausage-shaped, and effortless. Anything outside of that, whether you’re straining, rushing, wiping excessively, or feeling unfinished, could be your body whispering for attention.
One of the most common questions we hear is: should p**p sink or float? In general, a sinking stool is a sign of well-digested, fibre-rich meals and balanced gut flora. Floating stools, on the other hand, can indicate undigested fats, excess gas, or microbial imbalance, often pointing to malabsorption or fermentation in the bowel. It doesn’t necessarily mean something is wrong, but it’s worth taking notice of if it becomes frequent.
Unhealthy bowel movements might look like dry pellets, loose and unformed stools, strong odour, mucus, undigested food, or the need to go urgently, or not at all. These are not just digestive inconveniences; they are windows into hydration status, liver function, stress response, microbial diversity, and more.
So, how often should you be going? At Bottoms Up Colonics, we consider one to three satisfying bowel movements per day optimal. Daily, complete elimination is not excessive; it’s foundational. When waste sits in the bowel too long, it can reabsorb toxins, disturb hormonal balance, and impact energy, clarity, and immunity. Regular, healthy elimination is a sign that your body is metabolising, detoxifying, and regenerating properly.
Your p**p is not shameful. It’s not dirty. It’s data. And when you learn to read it, you gain insight into your inner world. Because healing doesn’t start with guessing, it starts with listening. Even to the parts no one talks about.
