Louisa started off the week in Stanthorpe with Kath from Happy Chat and the wonderful Selena for trauma-informed peer support training.

They also chatted about community food initiatives that Happy Chat, Stanthorpe Training Centre, and Food Support at Granite Belt Neighbourhood Centre do together - using locally produced ‘excess’ organic fruit & veggies to host meal gatherings and pickling workshops! Such fantastic ways to get together over food and conversation that nourishes both gut health and mental health!

If you’re in or around Stanthorpe, have mental health concerns and want to connect with others over a cuppa, check out Happy Chat: https://supportgroups.org.au/groups/happy-chat/

It was wonderful spending last week with a beautiful community of supportive women at the Womens Cancer Support GC, delivering the Accidental Counsellor training to some of their members. We shared wonderful insight and experiences with each other to build our skills around active listening, responding and handling disclosure. Thanks for having us!

True Relationships & Reproductive Health and Women's Health and Equality Queensland are starting a new group this Thursday, the 16th, for people seeking support and to learn more about perimenopause. Perimenopause is a significant period in people's lives.

✨ Perimenopause Meetup – South Brisbane ✨

True and WHEQ are excited to host our very first perimenopause meetup in Brisbane!

If you're navigating menopause and looking for community, this meetup offers a warm, welcoming space to share experiences and feel supported.

Join us between 5:30pm-7:00pm at WHEQ's group space on Thursday 16 October.

This meetup is a collaboration between True Relationships and Reproductive Health (True) and Women's Health and Equality Qld (WHEQ) to provide a safe space for connection, conversation, and support in the region.

Light refreshments will be provided. This is a free ticketed event.

Whether you're just beginning this phase or well into it, connecting with others who understand can be incredibly empowering.
All welcome!

Our Story

Self Help Queensland Inc provides support for support groups.

We support people to find and sustain support groups to improve their health. Self help and support groups may be large or small, online or face to face, informal or structured, stand alone or part of a network. They vary across a broad range of health conditions and related wellbeing issues, including genetic conditions, mental health, chronic illness, disability, grief and loss, parenting, sexual health, addiction, abuse, environment, multicultural, social action, rare diseases, refugees etc. Our aim is to support Queenslanders to share their lived experience of health and disease with others to improve their own and each other’s wellbeing. We help establish, develop, promote and sustain Self Help and Support Groups in Queensland. We act as a point of contact for community members, organisations and professionals to locate self help groups for themselves, their family, clients or patients. Self Help Queensland Inc is a charity formed in 1983.
