This Sunday, 8 March, we celebrate International Women’s Day (IWD) - a chance to recognise the incredible women who shape and strengthen our BlueCare community every, single day. IWD also offers a moment to reflect on the many women we serve, who have overcome their own challenges in life to pave the way for future generations of women.

Across Queensland, women throughout our BlueCare services lead with compassion, skill and resilience. Whether providing care on the frontline, supporting families, innovating behind the scenes or guiding our teams, the impact of BlueCare women is felt every moment of every day. This is why empowering women in the workplace is a commitment we are proud of. For IWD this year, UN Women Australia are sharing a promise that resonates deeply with our BlueCare community: Balance the Scales.

is a promise that every woman and girl, regardless of background or identity – should be safe, heard, and free to shape their own lives. Yet in 2026, too many across Australia and the world are still denied that fair go. Equality is not about advantage for some; it’s about dignity, safety and fairness for all.

There is still a long way to go before we can truly Balance the Scales, yet we must also take this moment to reflect on how far we have come, and the many inspiring women who walked before us so that we may run.

To the women who use our BlueCare services across Queensland, we are privileged to serve you. Thank you for the lives you have led, the families and communities you have helped shape, and the wisdom you share with us every day. Your resilience, stories and strength continue to inspire the care we provide and the values we uphold.

When women and girls stand equal, families are stronger, workplaces are fairer, communities thrive and society becomes safer for everyone.

This international Women’s Day let’s Balance the Scales together.

To all the women of BlueCare: Thank you!

Last week, our team at BlueCare Capricorn Aged Care celebrated an incredible milestone as our much loved resident Thelma turned 108. Family, friends, staff and special guests Michelle Landry MP and Nigel Hutton MP joined the festivities to help make it a day to remember.

Born on March 4, 1918, Thelma is the very picture of style and grace - never seen without her hair perfectly set, makeup just right, and a carefully chosen outfit and jewellery.

Having been a talented seamstress who created countless beautiful wedding dresses over the years, it might take you by surprise to learn that Thelma’s secret to her incredible longevity is simple: “Never get married!”

With music always close to her heart (especially the timeless songs of Nat King Cole), she delighted guests by singing some of her favourite tunes before enjoying a BBQ and birthday cake!

From all of us at BlueCare, congratulations to Thelma on 108 inspiring years 🎉

Our Redcliffe and Woody Point communities came together this week to celebrate Lunar New Year in the most wonderful way! 🧧✨

It was a joy to see so many smiling faces as our clients enjoyed a vibrant day filled with creativity, connection and plenty of laughter.

From lantern making and cherry blossom painting to rolling up their very own delicious rice paper rolls, everyone embraced the festivities with enthusiasm.

We also shared fascinating insights into Lunar New Year traditions and culture, before finishing the celebration with a delicious spread of traditional Chinese cuisine for lunch. 🥢🥟

A big thank you to everyone who helped make the day so special. Happy Lunar New Year 🎉

At BlueCare Flinders View Nowlanvil Aged Care, residents took on a creative challenge: choose a leaf, choose your colours, and let your imagination run free. 🍃🎨

The leaves were gathered from the grounds, dried, and then decorated with paint pens — each one uniquely designed by residents along with a few staff as part of a shared project.

The result is Leaves of joy and celebration — a collaborative artwork created by residents and the care team, lead by Yarni Dorge, now proudly displayed in the foyer. It captures so many moments in one piece: connection, laughter, change of season, nature, culture, creativity and community.

A beautiful way to start January — and a lovely reminder to Celebrate Every Moment.

Look closely and you’ll see dozens of unique stories in one piece. 💙

It’s easy to forget, but staying hydrated and well-nourished is essential - especially for older Queenslanders.

Simple ways to stay hydrated:

💧 Sip water often throughout the day
