Have you noticed the round marks on many of the tennis players or swimmers backs?

So many athletes use cupping as an essential part of looking after their body.

How does it work? Cupping uses heat and manual pumping to create a suction of a cup type instrument onto the body. This can then be moved around using an oil layer.

The exact science of how it works is up for debate, maybe increased circulation and blood flow to the area, maybe fascial movement. But it can work wonders for tight and sore muscles.

Our remedial massage therapists use cupping as one of their tools to help get your body to relax, recover and heal.

It is International Womens Day!

In our work of physio, massage and pilates, it is essential to understand not only the different issues faced through the decades of life from young to old, but also the difference with gender.

We need to understand the differences in growth as a teenager and that girls can be slower to develop muscle despite getting taller, what the menstrual cycle means to risk of injury like ACL in the knee, what the different phases of pregnancy mean for the body, postpartum what you can do and when, peirimenopausally why pain and musculoskeletal injuries such as tendon problems proliferate, what happens post menopausally to the muscle and bone system.

Women are different: we need and deserve the specific and specialist knowledge around what being female means, in all decades of our lives. At Physiologix we ensure we stay up to date with the latest research, helping us provide the very best service directed to YOU!

Pain at the front of your knee?

This image highlights just a few of the many reasons that you may have pain at the front of your knee.

Correct diagnosis is key to a successful outcome, as is good advice, education, and exercise rehab.

What you tell us about your pain, what aggravates, what eases, how, when, where all help us understand what your injury may be - and we want exact details as that also helps us understand why the structure became painful.

We will put you through an array of tests. We will make little tweaks to what we test to see if we can change the pain. We will assess what is happening at your knee but also further up and down the leg.

Are you weak, are certain muscles overactive? What exercises can we do to strengthen your quads that don't make your knee worse? How do we rehab you to be strong enough to do what you want to do and prevent reinjury? Do we need to teach you how to tape? Do we need to get you orthotics? How do you modify what you are doing currently to keep you as active as possible but still to be able to heal.

Front of knee pain is notoriously hard to treat, but if done well, with thorough assessing and testing, and careful rehab progression, outcomes can be winning.

See our highly experienced, knee passionate physios and learn what is wrong and how you are going to get it right.

At Physiologix we use Wunda Chair step backs to help people learn to feel how to use their glutes, or buttock muscles.

We frequently need these muscles to help support our back, hips or legs.

Our glutes help us push up stairs, walk, run.

We can set the wunda chair to help assist you to push upwards and achieve what many people cant usually cant manage on an ordinary step up. No matter your age or ability, injury or issue, this can be a great exercise to help you move forward (literally!!!)
