⚠️ This season has all the makings of a bad pasture dieback summer.

A good start, warm conditions and plenty of growth can be great but they’re also the perfect setup for pasture dieback to show up and spread.

If you’re seeing patches thinning out, plants yellowing, or paddocks not bouncing back like they should, don’t ignore it. The earlier dieback is identified, the more options you have.

📱 The Pasture Dieback App is the quickest way to:
- Report suspected dieback
- Flag new or emerging areas
- Access the latest info, tools and support
- Help build a clearer picture of what’s happening across QLD

We’re especially keen to hear from producers in western and north-western Queensland, where new areas are still being identified.

Catch & Release! 🤠🐮

Calves are being caught, tagged, weighed ⚖️ and recorded 📝before being released back to mum in two groups of calving cows that undergo daily calf checks at Douglas Daly Research Farm in Northern NT. They are part of long term breeding programs that have been selecting for fertility traits in Composite and Brahman herds. 🔬
The data collected is submitted to BREEDPLAN so that it can be compared with national breed averages and estimated breeding values (EBVs) can be calculated. 📈
Learn more about why traits such as birth weight are collected as part of estimated breeding values (EBVs) and how to use them in your herd

Cattle Tick Information Session - Taroom QLD

The recent cattle tick outbreak in the Taroom area has been worrying for many local producers, and it’s completely understandable that people have questions and concerns.

DPI is holding a community information session to provide an update on the current situation, clarify what it means for local properties, and talk through practical steps you can take to protect livestock and limit further spread. DPI staff will be available to answer questions and discuss next steps.

Producers are also encouraged to keep a close eye out for signs of tick fever in cattle. Early detection is critical. Information on signs, symptoms and what to do if you suspect tick fever is available here 👉https://bit.ly/3M1o5Yu

📍 Taroom Hall, 16 Yaldwyn Street
🕜 1:30pm | Friday 13 February 2026

All cattle producers in the area are encouraged to attend.

*Taroom Cattle Tick Information session*

WHEN:
1:30pm
Friday 13 February 2026

WHERE:
Taroom Hall
16 Yaldwyn Street

Cattle ticks have recently been detected in the Taroom area.
Since the outbreak I have spoken with multiple landholders, the Minister and his team numerous times, passing on the message from locals about the need for more information and support to understand the extent of the outbreak.

We are yet to establish how the ticks made it to the area, and tracing is ongoing to get to the bottom of it. This is important information we must understand.
