MRI or CT Scan, what's the difference?
Both scans help doctors see inside the body, but they’re used for different reasons.

MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging)
✔️ Best for soft tissues
✔️ Often used for the brain, spine, joints and ligaments
✔️ Uses magnetic fields (no radiation)

CT (Computed Tomography)
✔️ Often used for bones, organs and internal injuries
✔️ Helpful in emergency situations
✔️ Uses low-dose X-ray technology

Your doctor will recommend the most appropriate scan based on your symptoms and medical needs.

At Queensland Radiology Specialists, our team provides high-quality imaging to support accurate diagnosis and care.

What is a bone densitometry scan — and why might you need one?

Bone densitometry (also called a DEXA scan) is a quick, low-dose scan that measures bone strength. It helps assess your risk of conditions like osteoporosis, where bones become weaker and more likely to fracture.

Your doctor may recommend a bone density scan if you:
• Are over 50
• Have had a fracture from a minor fall
• Have risk factors for bone loss
• Are monitoring bone health over time

The scan is painless and usually takes just a few minutes.

Talk to your GP about whether a bone density scan is right for you.
