Doctor Matt’s books are open to seeing patients from Monday 14th July. He joins the team at Hawthorne after working for 5 years at The Barracks in Petrie Terrace and some local GPs close to home. Now he’s finally found a practice to make some roots here in Hawthorne.
Dr Matt has 20 years experience as a GP, having qualified from Birmingham (UK) in 2001 and receiving postgraduate specialist qualifications in General Practice in 2006. He emigrated to Australia in 2008, working first in rural Victoria in Gippsland for 2 years before relocating just up the road to Cairns Far North Queensland! Matt spent 10 years there increasing his skills and experience in tropical climate medicine, skin cancer and men's health working part time as a GP, part time as a GP with Special Interest in Dermatology in Cairns Hospital and working as a surgical assistant (with the robot!) for urologists treating patients with prostate cancer. Dr Matt has a passion for excellence and patient centred care such that he has also worked for Ahpra for 6 years as an Advisor - Ahpra regulate all practitioners in Australia so that the public can be sure healthcare practitioners are all striving for the excellence in care they deserve. His passion for skin cancer medicine persists currently studying a Masters in Skin Cancer Medicine with the University of Queensland. Moving to Brisbane in 2020 he met his wife, Sophie, and has 2 step boys and a toddler son and infant daughter. He also has 2 Cavalier King Charles and a Maine C**n cat. He helps his wife run a psychology practice group with sites so far in Birkdale and Hawthorne. Matt's recent passion is riding Motorcycles taking part in the Distinguished Gentleman's Ride raising money for Men's Health.
