💙 World Diabetes Day 💙

Today we’re recognising the 537 million people worldwide living with diabetes - each with their own story, challenges and strengths.

One of those people is Reece, one of our Occupational Therapists here at Hiya Health.

Living with Diabetes has given Reece a deep understanding of the importance of balance, structure and self-awareness which are all components that he brings into his work every day as an OT.

His perspective is a reminder that managing a condition doesn’t have to hold you back - it can shape how you support and empower others.

Here’s to all the people living and thriving with diabetes!

In light of World Diabetes Day on Friday, we wanted to shine a light on someone very special: Kody, one of our smallest (and mightiest) Hiya Health heroes.
He loves to run, climb, explore and giggle (a lot 😄). And he also happens to have Type 1 Diabetes.
Diabetes doesn’t just affect adults, it affects kids too. But does it stop them from being happy, energetic, playful little humans?
Not even close.
With support from his OT + EP team here at Hiya Health, Kody is building routine, coordination, strength and confidence, whilst also learning how to listen to his body so he can grow, play, explore, thrive and live an incredibly full life.
Go Kody 💙

Our Burleigh Heads clinicians are getting moving this Movember - because movement isn’t just good for your body, it’s great for your mind too. 🧠💙

This month is about shining a light on men’s mental health - taking time to move, connect, and look after ourselves and each other. Whether it’s a walk, a surf, or a gym session, every bit of movement counts. Movember has funded more than 1,250 men’s health projects around the world since 2003, challenging the status quo, shaking up men’s health research and transforming the way health services reach and support men.
We’re proud to stand alongside the men in our community, encouraging conversations, action, and support through movement.

They’ve shared their goals for the month, now we want to hear yours!
What movement goals are you working on this Movember? 👇

👯 Exercise is always better together! 💪
We've shared previously that working out with a friend not only keeps you motivated, it boosts your energy and helps you push that little bit harder.

This time, we’re focusing on the legs - grab your workout buddy and try these partner exercises designed to strengthen your lower body, improve balance, and build coordination.

👉 Squat throws
👉 Isometric squat + pass around
👉 Alternating lunge jumps
👉 Alternating squat holds
👉 Ladder calf raises 1-2-3-2-1

🌟 Client Spotlight 🌟
Sheree was diagnosed with with an Acquired Brain Injury 5-years ago when following a spontaneous intracranial haemorrhage within the left frontal lobe of her brain. About 4-years ago, Sheree began her journey with the support of the Hiya Health team in Beenleigh. Currently working with her Exercise Physiologist, Jordan, she has just recently begun running for the first time since before her stroke.
This is a huge milestone for Sheree, congratulations and keep up the good work!

It’s OT Week! 💚
This year’s theme, Occupational Therapy in Action, celebrates how OT's empower people to do what matters most to them - at home, at work, and in the community.

In this reel, our amazing OT's Courtney and Eloise share what being an Occupational Therapist means to them, and how they help clients live with confidence, independence, and purpose every day.

This week, join us in celebrating the difference OT's make across all walks of life.

👯 Exercise is more fun with a friend! 💪
Research shows that exercising socially increases endorphin release and strengthens accountability - meaning you’re more likely to stick with it and enjoy it too!

So grab a Swiss ball and your workout buddy, and give these core exercises a go! Not only will you challenge your stability and coordination, but you’ll also build strength together - both physically and mentally.

At Redcliffe, we as clinicians always looking for smarter ways to meet rehab goals safely and effectively.
Using our ceiling hoist system, we can prescribe exercises that work on one's postural control and balance. One example is using the hoist while doing trunk exercises on a swiss ball. This targets core stability and challenges the balance systems without the risk of falls. It’s a targeted, supportive setup that helps build confidence and capacity.
