Exercise looks different for every woman. For some, it’s about strength. For others, it’s confidence, clarity, or simply a moment for themselves.

This International Women’s Day, we asked the women in our community one simple question: Why is exercise important to you?

This year’s theme, Give to Gain, reminds us that when we support and uplift women, we all benefit. And sometimes that support starts with something simple: creating space for women to move, build strength, and prioritise their health.

Their answers are a reminder that movement isn’t just about fitness - it’s about feeling strong, capable, and supported in everyday life.

At Hiya Health, we're proud to provide environments to support all women with their health goals.
Here’s to women supporting women, and moving in ways that help us feel our best. :purple_heart:

🎤 Meet Brenda.

Brenda works regularly with Senior Exercise Physiologist, Alyssa, out of our Labrador clinic to support her bone health and long-term fitness, focusing on age-related conditions like osteoporosis.

We recently mic’d her up for a session, and it was full of strength, laughs, and a few confessions 😄 She hates crab walks, loves Pilates, and is a big Emily in Paris fan. As she says, “If I can get through crab walks, I can get through anything” - and honestly, we couldn’t agree more.

Sessions like these show that building confidence, independence, and resilience can also be fun and full of personality 💙

World Obesity Day 💙

Obesity is a complex, chronic health condition shaped by many factors, including biology, environment, access to care, mental health and lived experience.

Today is about shifting the conversation away from judgement and towards understanding, compassion, and evidence-based care. When we reduce stigma and support inclusive healthcare, we create better health outcomes for individuals and communities alike.

At Hiya Health, we’re committed to providing respectful, person-centred care that supports health, function, and wellbeing at every stage of life. Changing the story starts with understanding.

February is Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month 🌸🎗️

Most women become less active after they’ve been diagnosed with ovarian cancer and that’s completely understandable. Treatment, fatigue, and emotional stress can make movement feel overwhelming. However, gentle, consistent activity can support recovery, boost mood, and rebuild strength over time 🏋🏻‍♀️

Physiotherapy and Exercise Physiology play a vital role in slowly introducing safe and effective physical activity with a personalised focus helping rebuild strength safely and confidently at their own pace.

Adrian has been a bright spark in our clinic twice a week! Working alongside our Exercise Physiologist Madison, Adrian has been crushing goals in:
💪 Improving muscular strength
⚖️ Improving his balance & stability
🚶‍♂️ Maintaining independence
But if you ask Adrian, the best part of the workout isn’t just the lifting—it’s the lifting of spirits! Adrian never misses a chance for a social chat with the whole team while getting those reps in 🏋️‍♂️

Big smiles all round 😊

Jason was thrilled to receive his new power wheelchair, supporting him to stay active and independent at home and out in the community.

This custom wheelchair has been carefully set up to suit Jason’s unique seating preferences and functional needs - including enabling him to comfortably sit right under his computer desk, so he can keep doing the things he enjoys.

While we didn’t prescribe the wheelchair, our team was proud to support delivery, setup and handover, making sure everything was fitted correctly and ready to go from day one.

Pictured here with Courtney, one of our Senior Occupational Therapists, who brings extensive experience supporting people with both power and manual wheelchairs across NDIS, DVA, Aged Care, MASS and NIISQ.

It’s moments like these that remind us how the right equipment, and the right support, can make a real difference 💙

Hiya Health Explains: Do you have to live with back pain?

Back pain is common, but it isn’t something you simply have to accept. For most people, back pain can improve with the right approach - including movement, education, strength, and support tailored to you.
Pain doesn’t always mean damage, and ongoing pain doesn’t mean nothing can change. With the right guidance, many people build confidence, reduce flare-ups, and get back to doing the things they enjoy.
If back pain is holding you back, our physiotherapy and exercise physiology teams can help you move forward - safely and sustainably.

Today's "superstar" shout-out is for Oli, one of our many favorite faces at the Redcliffe clinic! If you know Oli, you know he’s the life of the party— hilarious, and always ready with a witty joke or some top-tier banter to keep our practitioners on their toes. But don't let the jokes fool you; he’s been putting in serious work! Over his time at Redcliffe, Oli has smashed multiple goals such as performing a dead hang and facing his fear of stepping up onto high surfaces. Last week, we officially said goodbye to Oli as he heads off to uni life! The good news is this isn't a final "goodbye", it's a "see you later!" Oli will be continuing his sessions at one of our other clinics, so keep your eyes peeled and be sure to say hello or ask him to tell you a joke.

Hiya Health Explains: Do you only need to think about bone health after menopause?

Lara explains that bone health is built across your whole lifespan. In fact, your peak bone density is reached earlier in life - and the habits you build well before menopause play a major role in long-term bone strength.

So.. no, bone health isn’t something to think about eventually. It’s something worth supporting now.
If you’re unsure where to start, our Exercise Physiology team can help build a plan that supports lifelong bone health. Get in touch with our team today to see how we can help. https://hubs.li/Q0400--80
